About the job

Requirements
  • 7-10 years of engineering experience, including at least 3 years directly managing engineers.
  • A track record of hiring and developing engineers, including specific examples of leveling or promoting people.
  • Hands-on production or reliability engineering experience, including having carried an on-call pager.
  • Strong experience with AWS and Terraform, including work within a managed infrastructure-as-code pipeline.
  • Experience building or running an on-call rotation and incident management process.
  • Strong platform observability experience, including the ability to distinguish effective dashboards from ineffective dashboards.
  • Clear communication for a technical, cross-team audience.
  • A track record of introducing reliability practices upstream into product engineering teams rather than only reacting to incidents.
  • Proficiency with AI-assisted development using Claude Code and Cursor, including rigorous review of AI-written pull requests.
Responsibilities
  • Define the framework teams use to set service-level objectives and error budgets, and educate and support product teams in using it.
  • Own blameless post-mortems and root-cause fixes, treating repeat incidents as process gaps.
  • Implement production readiness reviews for new releases.
  • Improve Datadog observability coverage by addressing missing alerts, dashboard blind spots, and noisy on-call pages.
  • Hire and build the Site Reliability team from the ground up, setting the technical and cultural bar for future engineers.
  • Build the on-call rotation and incident management process from scratch.
  • Define service-level objectives for the most important services and establish a recurring incident review process.
  • Develop Site Reliability into a function that other teams route work to and reduce repeat incidents through effective root-cause fixes.

What believers are saying

  • Pliant serves over 3,500 European businesses and entered the U.S. market in 2026.
  • The April 2025 $40 million Series B funded North American hiring and onboarding.
  • Thredd's August 2026 launch proves live U.S. demand for Pliant's commercial cards.

What critics are saying

  • Ramp, Brex, Pleo, and Payhawk all attack adjacent spend-management buyers in 2026.
  • Coastal and Visa create partner dependence; any bank or network friction slows U.S. growth.
  • If U.S. onboarding stalls, Pliant remains Europe-centric and loses its expansion narrative.

What makes Pliant unique

  • Pliant launched U.S. commercial credit with Coastal and Visa in 2026.
  • Its API-first CaaS bundles issuance, compliance, settlement, and spend controls.
  • hi.health acquisition in April 2025 widens Pliant into insurance payments.

Thredd and Pliant launch U.S. commercial credit platform with embedded finance and API-driven reconciliation

Thredd has expanded its partnership with Pliant to launch a commercial credit programme in the US market. The collaboration brings Pliant's embedded finance platform, which offers physical and virtual credit cards with built-in reconciliation and spend controls, to American businesses for the first time. The programme is live on the Visa network with bank sponsorship from Coastal, following a soft rollout in late 2025. Pliant's platform combines credit issuance with lending decisioning and reconciliation tools, enabling businesses to manage expenses and reporting through a single solution. Berlin-based Pliant, founded in 2020, previously operated solely in Europe. The company is now expanding its executive leadership team in the US as part of its North American growth plans. The partnership leverages Thredd's API-driven issuer processing platform to enable cross-border expansion.
