Requirements
  • A Master’s degree in education or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with field or clinical supervision and partnership-based work in K–12 schools and/or relevant professional practice settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement policies and procedures, with organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive records and maintain accurate documentation and data in appropriate systems such as Banner or an equivalent system.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
  • Access to university information systems and/or sensitive data requires adherence to information security policies and applicable laws and regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and oversee School of Education-wide field and clinical experience systems across all programs and degree levels, including shared timelines, readiness requirements, documentation standards, and placement decision protocols.
  • Serve as the School of Education’s primary liaison to the Virginia Department of Education for Virginia licensure and program approval matters.
  • Interpret and track changes in Virginia licensure requirements, consult with program leadership and faculty on alignment, and coordinate Virginia Department of Education submissions and communications relevant to educator preparation.
  • Counsel and monitor candidates’ progress toward teaching licensure requirements; audit and maintain records, verify transcripts and test scores, enter state-mandated exam scores in Banner or an equivalent student information system, and complete and submit teaching licensure forms for Virginia and other states as required.
  • Provide eligibility letters for students and recent graduates.
  • Provide strategy, administrative, and organizational support for field and clinical placements across all three School of Education departments.
  • Develop and maintain clinical placement partnerships.
  • Lead the development and renewal of memoranda of understanding and ensure that their terms are met by all parties; serve as signatory authority on clinical placement memoranda of understanding for the School of Education.
  • Provide accountability for data review and continuous improvement related to field and clinical placements.
  • Set shared expectations and processes across all programs and align clinical work with accreditation and partnership needs.
  • Convene program liaisons to ensure quality management and consistency, and ensure program handbooks are reviewed regularly and kept current.
  • Convene and chair the Clinical Experiences Council, aligning standards, calendars, documentation, and improvement priorities across programs.
  • Oversee and make decisions about placement arrangements, including exceptions and changes, and establish escalation pathways for placement concerns and serious student issues.
  • Establish and enforce compliance processes for field and clinical participation, including background checks, partner requirements, readiness gates, and documentation for placement interruption or removal.
  • Maintain and manage the field and clinical placement database and related records, ensuring data integrity and timely completion of required documentation.
  • Provide functional leadership for university supervisors and clinical faculty, including recruitment and hiring, onboarding expectations, assignment coordination, monitoring evaluation completion, communication, and support.
  • Coordinate administrative workflows for the clinical enterprise, including supervisor compensation or honoraria and reimbursements.
  • Analyze evidence from field and clinical experiences and recommend improvements to policy, practice, and procedures.
  • Lead periodic review and improvement of readiness requirements, placement processes, and clinical decision protocols, and propose revisions to associate deans and governance groups.
  • Lead supervisor calibration and support improvement of evaluation instruments and rubrics in collaboration with program leadership and the Assistant Dean for Assessment, Accreditation, and Accountability.
  • Use the Clinical Experiences Council and other stakeholder groups to identify cross-program needs and implement coordinated improvements.
  • Provide periodic summaries of clinical quality assurance, partnership health, and system improvements for School of Education leadership.
  • Develop and implement a systematic training and support plan for university supervisors, clinical faculty, partner mentors, candidates, and School of Education field and clinical coordinators.
  • Conduct orientations and ongoing training for supervisors and partners, and provide responsive support for placement, evaluation, and compliance needs.
  • Support candidates and supervisors in navigating field and clinical expectations and documentation requirements, coordinating with program leadership as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience leading field and clinical experiences across multiple program types, including teacher education and at least one of counseling, school psychology, leadership, or advanced programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Virginia licensure regulations and experience working with Virginia Department of Education processes and program approvals.
  • Familiarity with accreditation expectations connected to clinical preparation, including Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation, Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs, or National Association of School Psychologists, and use of evidence for continuous improvement.
