Requirements
  • An academically oriented candidate with 3-5 years of post-fellowship experience; current fellows and recent graduates will be considered.
  • A PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree, with applicable certification by the American Board of Medical Laboratory Immunology / Diplomate in Medical Laboratory Immunology, the American Board of Pathology, or the American Board of Clinical Chemistry with an immunology focus.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in South Carolina, if applicable.
  • Proficiency in the interpretation of routine clinical immunology testing, including serum protein electrophoresis, urine protein electrophoresis, immunofixation electrophoresis, immunotyping, and hemoglobin variants.
  • Experience fostering collaborative relationships with clinicians and researchers, serving as a resource to bench technologists, and promoting appropriate utilization of specialized immunologic testing.
  • Participation in clinical and/or translational research endeavors.
  • Active participation in teaching medical students and training pathology residents and fellows.
  • Active participation in the ComACC-accredited clinical chemistry fellowship training program.
  • Active participation in the academic mission of the Department.
  • Excellent communication skills, work ethic, and a collaborative approach to patient care.
Responsibilities
  • Actively participate in the oversight of laboratory testing quality.
  • Lead or participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of new laboratory assays and diagnostic approaches, including laboratory-developed tests and emerging technologies.
  • Collaborate with quality and technical staff to monitor service performance and quality and facilitate timely interventions on issues affecting operations.
  • Participate in clinical and/or translational research endeavors.
  • Actively participate in teaching medical students and training pathology residents and fellows.
  • Actively participate in the ComACC-accredited clinical chemistry fellowship training program.
  • Actively participate in the academic mission of the Department.
  • Collaboratively support the Directors of the Clinical Chemistry Laboratory and Diagnostic Immunology Laboratory through teaching activities, new assay validation and verification studies, accreditation activities, and applicable research or industry grants.
Desired Qualifications
  • Additional formal training, certification, and/or expertise in clinical chemistry or related clinical pathology laboratory science, such as toxicology, clinical mass spectrometry, point-of-care testing, molecular immunology, HLA testing, or flow cytometry.
