Requirements
  • Licensed Practical Nurse certification.
  • At least two years of experience working with people with disabilities in a professional environment, including academic, government, or medical settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with assistive technology and accessibility software.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to read technical and non-technical documents aloud accurately.
  • Experience with lifting and transferring individuals safely.
  • Completion of Department of Energy-required training for contractors.
  • Ability to provide services from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with flexibility for occasional longer hours.
  • Ability to respond to emergency and short-notice assistance requests.
  • Availability for nationwide service provision.
  • Ability to work with diverse individuals and uphold confidentiality and privacy standards.
  • Completion of requisite Security and Privacy Awareness Training to obtain access to Department of Energy facilities.
  • United States citizenship is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Adobe.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct support to employees with targeted disabilities by assisting with activities of daily living, including eating, drinking, dressing, toileting, transferring, and mobility.
  • Assist employees in and out of vehicles, mobility devices, and restrooms, including lifting and carrying when necessary.
  • Adjust, operate, and organize employees' workstations and government equipment and technology.
  • Accompany employees with service animals and provide sighted guidance to blind and low-vision individuals.
  • Assist with light filing, retrieve out-of-reach items, and provide wheelchair assistance.
  • Help employees use assistive technology software applications effectively.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all interactions and materials handled in accordance with security and privacy protocols.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports detailing services provided, hours worked, and other relevant metrics.
  • Report services, cancellations, and other performance metrics on a monthly and quarterly basis.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least two years of related professional work experience.
  • Familiarity with assistive technology software applications such as ZoomText, JAWS, Kurzweil, and Dragon NaturallySpeaking.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity when working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds and perform physical tasks such as stooping, bending, climbing, and reaching.
  • Ability to make professional judgments to support the needs of individuals with disabilities.
  • Professional appearance and adherence to workplace etiquette and standards.
