Requirements
  • High school graduation or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school is required, unless the candidate has verifiable applicable work experience in a patient-care setting.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification is required.
  • A current certification is required as a Certified Medical Assistant from the American Association of Medical Assistants, Registered Medical Assistant from American Medical Technologists, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant from the National Health Career Association, or National Certified Medical Assistant from the National Center for Competency Testing.
  • No prior experience is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform patient care under the direction of a physician or Advanced Practice Provider in an ambulatory setting.
  • Gather patient data through interviews and observation.
  • Assist patients and families with preparation for examinations.
  • Assist physicians or Advanced Practice Providers during examinations and procedures.
  • Provide routine treatments and administer approved medication types.
  • Document patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to organizational and departmental policies.
  • Schedule specialty testing and physician consultations and provide patients with scheduling information.
  • Process incoming and outgoing calls independently and professionally using clinical judgment.
  • Enter medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under provider direction.
  • Follow organizational and departmental policies, procedures, value statements, quality standards, patient-safety practices, infection-control standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assess data appropriate to the age-specific needs of patients in the assigned department or unit.
  • Use supplies efficiently.
  • Assist the business office with reception, scheduling, and patient discharge as needed.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance and compliance with organizational policies.
