Microsoft trades at 28x earnings despite 47% operating margin and 18% revenue growth

Microsoft trades at 27.8 times earnings, the second-highest valuation in its peer group, despite delivering a -0.5% stock return over the past twelve months compared to the S&P 500's 18.5% gain. The company operates at a 46.8% operating margin, the highest among rivals, and grew revenue 17.8% over the trailing twelve months. However, Microsoft converted only 20% of its $331.84 billion revenue into $66.99 billion of free cash flow due to heavy capital spending. Microsoft invested $35.8 billion in property and equipment in fiscal Q4 2026, primarily on data centres for Azure, which grew 43% that quarter. The company added 31 new data centres and expects 2026 capital spending to reach $175 billion. Management guides fiscal 2027 to double-digit revenue and operating income growth, with operating margins declining less than one point despite increased capital spending.

Talkdesk partners with Microsoft to bring AI contact centre automation to Azure Marketplace

Talkdesk has expanded its partnership with Microsoft, allowing enterprises to purchase Talkdesk Customer Experience Automation (CXA) through the Azure Marketplace using existing Microsoft Azure commitments. This simplifies procurement and speeds up deployment. Talkdesk CXA automates complex customer service workflows across business applications using multi-agent orchestration. The system coordinates specialised AI agents that understand customer context, access enterprise data, and execute end-to-end processes. It works with cloud, hybrid, and on-premises contact centre environments. Through Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment, organisations can apply pre-committed Azure spend towards marketplace purchases. This consolidates billing into a single Microsoft invoice, reducing procurement complexity and avoiding delays from vendor onboarding and approvals. The integration aims to help enterprises scale AI automation without replacing existing infrastructure.

Microsoft launches AI tool to convert Salesforce and ERP systems to Dynamics 365

Microsoft has launched Dynamics 365 Activate, an AI-powered tool designed to help businesses migrate from Salesforce and other CRM and ERP systems to its Dynamics 365 platform. Currently available as a public preview for Salesforce conversions, the tool analyses existing implementations, identifies data relationships and dependencies, and creates migration blueprints. The software aims to reduce manual effort and migration risks whilst helping Microsoft's partners assess customer environments more quickly. Additional CRM and ERP migration scenarios will launch later this year. The timing is notable as Salesforce faces challenges with its own AI platform, Agentforce, which has reportedly struggled to gain user enthusiasm. Microsoft's Productivity and Business Processes unit, which includes Dynamics, generated $140 billion in revenue in FY 26, up 15 per cent year-over-year.

Microsoft gives US schools enforceable AI privacy controls over student data

Microsoft announced it will allow every US school district to set its own AI privacy and safety rules in their contracts. The move comes days after New York City imposed a one-year moratorium on AI in public schools. The "National AI Safety & Privacy Standard", announced by Microsoft Vice Chair Brad Smith alongside teachers' union leaders, becomes legally enforceable when written into district agreements. It prohibits using student data to train AI models, tracking students, and allowing AI to make decisions without human review. The protections take effect on 1 November for all school districts working with Microsoft, whether or not they actively adopt them. Districts can cancel contracts and seek damages if companies violate the rules. Union leaders said they hope OpenAI and Anthropic will sign similar agreements. Both companies have expressed willingness but haven't confirmed.
