Requirements
  • Minimum Grade 12 education is required.
  • One year of relevant experience related to the listed duties is required.
  • Must possess a Class G licence with a good driving record; a Class DZ licence is an asset.
  • Must provide a current driver’s abstract confirming the licence is in good standing and has not been suspended or revoked under the Highway Traffic Act or Criminal Code of Canada in the last three years.
  • Must be able to perform physical labour including lifting and shoveling.
  • Must be mechanically inclined and have strong attention to detail.
  • Must be able to make decisions and function with minimum supervision.
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities including lifting, digging, shoveling, raking, and climbing ladders while working within live traffic and adverse weather conditions.
  • Must have knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
Responsibilities
  • Perform duties related to the development, maintenance, and operation of roads winter control.
  • Operate tractors with plow attachments and other equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Perform winter roadway control duties, including manual snow and ice clearing and manual salting and sanding.
  • Comply with applicable Occupational Health & Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act, federal, provincial, and City regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Remove obstacles hazardous to employees or the public or interfering with the safe operation of vehicles or equipment.
  • Report vandalism, mechanical difficulties, damage, and hazardous conditions immediately.
  • Operate sidewalk winter-control equipment, including sidewalk plows with plow blades or snow blower attachments.
  • Complete daily logs and timesheets.
  • Report variances to daily work plans.
  • Report vandalism, mechanical difficulties, and equipment or property damage.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with snow blowers, sidewalk plows, farm tractors, skid steers, and pickup trucks with plows is an asset.
  • A Class DZ licence is a definite asset.
  • Ability to deal with the public in a cordial manner and work well in a team environment.
