ProPetro's PROPWR signs 230-MW power deal with Targa for Permian gas processing.

ProPetro's PROPWR signs 230-MW power deal with Targa for Permian gas processing. September 23, 2026 ProPetro's PROPWR has signed long-term contracts to provide approximately 230 MW of behind-the-meter power generation for Targa Resources' Permian basin natural gas processing operations, with full deployment expected in early 2028. (P&GJ) - ProPetro Holding Corp.'s PROPWR business has signed long-term contracts with a Targa Resources subsidiary to provide approximately 230 MW of behind-the-meter power generation capacity for natural gas processing infrastructure in the Permian basin. Full deployment of the power generation capacity is expected in early 2028. The new agreements bring PROPWR's total contracted capacity to approximately 510 MW. That figure also reflects previously announced oil and gas power capacity that is no longer under contract, allowing PROPWR to redeploy the associated capacity to Targa and make additional megawatts available for potential data center projects beginning in 2027. ProPetro said the Targa contracts will support continued investment in Permian basin natural gas processing infrastructure as U.S. gas demand grows from LNG exports, data center and artificial intelligence development, and additional gas-fired power generation. "These contracts reflect the significant and growing demand for reliable, behind-the-meter power across the energy value chain, and the essential role midstream infrastructure plays in moving Permian gas to various end markets," ProPetro CEO Sam Sledge said. Sledge said the agreements demonstrate PROPWR's ability to provide power at scale and establish a new long-term relationship with Targa as the midstream company continues to expand its infrastructure footprint.

Earnings per share increased 19.9% annually over five years, outperforming peers. The company's free cash flow margin improved by 38.5 percentage points over five years, providing resources for growth initiatives, share buybacks, or dividends. Meanwhile, fashion retailer Revolve and hydraulic fracturing services provider ProPetro face challenges. Revolve's 6.6% annual sales growth and 6.5% customer growth over three years underperformed, whilst high marketing expenses suggest heavy spending on customer acquisition. ProPetro's modest revenue base and declining EBITDA margin limit its competitiveness.

Agricultural, construction, and power generation equipment manufacturer Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:CAT)'s shares are up by 165% over the past year and by 55% year-to-date. The artificial intelligence boom has also proven to be a boon for the firm's power generation products. For instance, ProPetro Holding Corp announced an agreement with Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:CAT) to purchase power generation assets capable of generating up to 2.1 billion gigawatts of power over the next five years. Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:CAT)'s forward P/E ratio of 31.35 is higher than the machinery sector's average of 24.06. Evercore ISI discussed the firm on May 11th as it raised the share price target to $1,103 from $878 and reiterated a Buy rating on the shares. CNBC's Jim Cramer discussed Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:CAT) and its multiple in his May 15th appearance on Mad Money: "So let's go to our game plan for next week... Monday's Caterpillar, this division, okay, it's integral to data center construction, and it's hosting a headquarters visit for investors right now. CAT trades at 36 times earnings. It's like a tech stock. Oh, you know, I like CAT, but this has become overheated. If this division, well, this division has everybody excited. Perhaps it merits the premium. We have to find out." While we acknowledge the risk and potential of CAT as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and doing so within a shorter time frame.
