Requirements
  • Current and valid Washington State Registered Nurse licensure for Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant licensure for Physician Assistant-Certified.
  • A graduate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • National certification as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant and eligibility for Drug Enforcement Administration registration.
  • Experience working effectively in an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment.
  • Effective interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer knowledge and basic personal computer skills.
Responsibilities
  • Provide independent and collaborative patient management from admission to the Cardiothoracic Surgery Intensive Care Unit through transfer of care to the acute care setting.
  • Work on a dedicated cardiothoracic inter-professional team with established advanced practice providers, critical care physicians, cardiothoracic surgeons, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Perform bedside intensive care unit procedures, including central line and arterial line placements, bronchoscopy, and point-of-care ultrasound.
  • Participate in the education of nursing and resident staff.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects and process improvement activities for the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
  • Engage in teaching, research, and service as a University of Washington faculty member.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior critical care or cardiothoracic surgery experience is strongly preferred.
  • Relevant critical care and cardiothoracic surgical training backgrounds are desirable for highly motivated new graduates.
