Requirements

  • Experience with cleaning and repair equipment, including a vacuum or shop vacuum, floor machines, snow blower, and yard and landscaping equipment, is required.
  • Basic knowledge and competence in carpentry, electricity, and plumbing are required.
  • Adequate knowledge of boilers, electrical machinery, elevators, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, and fire pump and standpipe or sprinkler systems is required.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Availability by phone for emergency situations within the program is required.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid training are required.
  • A valid driver's license is required, including the ability to drive a large vehicle such as a wheelchair-accessible or 15-passenger van.
Responsibilities
  • Perform routine repairs in and around the facility while meeting outside monitoring requirements and maintaining a safe and clean environment.
  • Participate in regular cleaning and sanitizing of the property and ensure proper maintenance and upkeep of the facility.
  • Repair structures and work with wood, wallboard, tiles, power tools, and hand tools; build wall partitions and replace doors and locks; and use blueprints and sketches as needed.
  • Unclog sinks, drains, and toilets; replace or repair sinks, faucets, toilets, and grout tile; and solder and braze pipe as needed.
  • Replace fuses, test circuits, install receptacles, three-way switches, and light fixtures, replace ballasts and plugs, and use a multi-tester and wire gauge.
  • Operate and maintain low-pressure boilers and work with air-conditioning systems and cooling towers.
  • Perform floor care, including buffing, stripping, and waxing floors.
  • Strip and wax all floors quarterly.
  • Submit weekly requisitions for necessary maintenance and repair supplies to the Director of Developmental Disabilities Services and control the supply inventory.
  • Complete the monthly physical plant and fire safety audit of the facility.
  • Establish and execute a formalized preventive maintenance schedule covering painting, plastering, plumbing, changing locks and lighting fixtures, stripping and waxing floors, and installing shades.
  • Ensure the overall cleanliness of the facility.
  • Supervise the installation of facility furniture and appliances.
  • Participate in moving clients into and out of the facility.
  • Maintain vehicle maintenance and mileage records before and after trips.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions regularly.
  • Provide accurate, complete, and timely documentation of Adult Daily Living training in group notes.
  • Participate in assigned meetings, including supervisory and service-planning meetings.
  • Adhere to agency policies regarding confidentiality, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act requirements, and corporate compliance.
  • Follow all life-safety policies and procedures.
  • Provide proper notification when late or absent.
  • Remain reliable while on call and work overtime when necessary if classified as a non-exempt employee.
  • Recognize workflow priorities and perform duties independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of clients, shelters or programs, the agency, and The Salvation Army.
  • Wear an identification badge while on duty and comply with the dress code.
  • Interact positively and helpfully with clients, visitors, contract staff, volunteers, and coworkers.
  • Maintain a supportive work environment and a positive workplace attitude.
  • Present a professional image when dealing with the public and clients.
  • Recognize and remain sensitive to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the served population.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
