Requirements
  • The required experience depends on classification: Designer requires 4–10 years of work experience; Senior Designer requires 8–15 years in the oil and gas industry; Staff Designer requires 15 or more years in the oil and gas industry, or an associate degree in engineering technology, electrical design, or a related degree and 10 or more years of experience; Senior Staff Designer requires 17 or more years in the oil and gas industry, or an associate degree in engineering technology, electrical design, or a related degree and 15 or more years of experience; Principal Designer requires 20 or more years in the oil and gas industry, or 15 or more years with significant Lead Designer experience.
  • The position requires design experience including Arctic civil/structural design.
  • The position requires the ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and other written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule-based instructions.
  • The position requires sufficient mathematics skills to perform arithmetic with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals and to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
  • The position requires working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and current versions of AutoCAD design software.
  • The position requires the ability to solve practical problems, analyze information, develop alternative solutions, and make decisions in situations with limited standardization.
  • The position requires the ability to observe safety and security procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Interpret and apply codes, procedures, standards, and specifications to produce civil/structural designs that conform to applicable requirements.
  • Interpret complex vendor data and drawings for conformance with project requirements and initiate resolution of problems.
  • Develop material takeoffs and estimates.
  • Use computer-assisted design software and equipment to perform design tasks, including proficient operation of the most recent version of AutoCAD.
  • Analyze engineering proposals, process requirements, and technical data related to industrial machinery and equipment design.
  • Determine the feasibility of modifying existing facilities based on cost, available space, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors.
  • Provide information to field construction personnel.
  • Provide technical information about manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations affecting long-range plant and product engineering planning.
  • Study engineering and technical publications to remain current on technical changes and industry developments.
  • Assist with preparing and modifying reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, and project designs.
Desired Qualifications
  • Oil and gas industry experience is preferred for the Designer classification.
  • Applicable Arctic or cold-weather experience is preferred.
  • Three-dimensional modeling experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with Advance Steel is preferred.
  • Experience working with the International Building Code, American Welding Society standards, American Society of Civil Engineers standards, and American Institute of Steel Construction standards is preferred.
  • Field-specific design experience is preferred.
