About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a similar field is required.
  • At least 7 years of experience in marketing analytics, customer analytics, or a closely related role, including leading measurement and insight work for retention, lifecycle, or CRM programs is required.
  • Experience working inside a renewal- or subscription-based service business where retention is central to the business model is required; relevant industries include insurance, financial services, banking, telecommunications, and SaaS.
  • Expert SQL skills, including deep query optimization knowledge, and working proficiency in Python or R for analysis and workflow automation are required.
  • Expertise in business intelligence tools, with Power BI strongly preferred, and ability to adapt quickly to new tools and platforms are required.
  • Recent hands-on delivery of analysis, including designing and interpreting test-and-control or holdout measurement, is required.
  • Deep expertise in advanced segmentation, scenario modeling, business case development, and experimental and quasi-experimental measurement design is required.
  • A proven track record of presenting to senior leadership and influencing strategic decisions with analytical insight is required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an analytics thought partner to Retention Marketing leadership and the primary point of contact for senior stakeholders, and shape the retention measurement and insights agenda.
  • Own the strategy for measuring retention marketing across policyholder touchpoints, including email, direct mail, digital and in-app messaging, and renewal communications; set standards for measuring incremental impact on retention, cancellations, and policies in force.
  • Identify undefined problem spaces and reframe loosely defined requests into decision-ready analytical questions; anticipate decision makers’ needs and proactively deliver insights.
  • Lead complex causal questions in retention, such as assessing whether and how communications change cancellation behavior; select appropriate holdout design, test-and-control, or quasi-experimental methods for observational data, explain limitations, and define measurement approaches for communications without direct response actions, such as education messaging.
  • Lead forecasting and business case analysis to size retention opportunities and initiative impacts against business targets, and inform investment and prioritization decisions.
  • Build and own the retention scorecard mapped to the business scorecard; regularly analyze holdout and test-and-control results for lifecycle journeys.
  • Connect retention to customer lifetime value and combined ratio, assess whether customer lifetime value reflects renewal beyond the first term, and quantify retention lift from bundling and multi-line relationships.
  • Automate recurring retention reporting with Business Intelligence so the team can focus on analysis and communicating findings rather than producing numbers.
  • Develop and standardize scalable retention analytics frameworks, including KPI definitions, scorecards, and test-read protocols; partner with Business Intelligence on durable automated reporting and influence data governance and quality standards for retention metrics.
  • Select and combine data according to decision needs; anticipate data limitations, guide responsible data use across the team, and explore new data sources and their possible application to retention.
  • Develop executive-ready narratives that influence strategic decisions, present to senior marketing leadership, defend analytical approaches, surface important findings including unwelcome ones, and handle those discussions with empathy and diplomacy.
  • Set quality standards for retention analytics, develop QA frameworks and checklists for common analyses, and remain accountable for decision risk in analytical outputs.
  • Balance two to three major strategic initiatives while supporting ad hoc requests; scope work accurately and proactively communicate risks, dependencies, tradeoffs, and factors outside the team’s control; remain composed amid executive requests and conflicting stakeholder priorities.
  • Influence tool selection and team best practices; evaluate and recommend technologies, including automation and AI tools, to improve efficiency.
  • Partner with Data Science, Business Intelligence, and Data Operations on churn modeling, metric alignment, and shared data assets.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience coaching and developing other analysts.
  • Experience in Property & Casualty insurance.
  • An advanced degree, such as an MS or MBA, in a quantitative or analytical field.
  • Hands-on experience with churn or retention modeling, such as propensity models or survival analysis, and causal inference methods, such as matched comparisons or difference-in-differences.
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms, with BigQuery and/or Snowflake preferred.
  • Experience shaping data governance, metric definitions, or tool selection for an analytics team.
  • Experience using AI tools to improve workflow productivity and analytical quality, including research, summarization, analysis, documentation, and automation.
