Requirements
  • A high school diploma, GED, or completion of a trade program or technical school is required.
  • EPA Certification covering Type I, II, and III is required.
  • All required safety certifications are required.
  • Three to five years of work experience in commercial HVAC and refrigeration is required.
  • Experience working on refrigeration equipment in convenience stores, supermarkets, industrial chillers, and cooling towers is required.
  • Expert knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials common to the refrigeration, HVAC, and electrical trades is required.
  • Expert knowledge of refrigeration and HVAC theory and application is required.
  • Expert knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulations is required.
  • Expert knowledge of electrical applications for high- and low-voltage electrical systems is required.
  • Expert knowledge of water flow, water-cooled equipment, and controls is required.
  • Expert knowledge of airflow and pressure is required.
  • Expert knowledge of centrifugal, piston, and screw compressors is required.
  • Expert knowledge of evaporative and cooling towers, chillers, and purging units is required.
  • Expert knowledge of ammonia systems is required.
  • Expert skill in installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical system equipment and components is required.
  • Understanding of quality management systems and safety procedures is required.
  • Ability to use hand tools, machine tools, and precision measuring instruments is required.

  • Ability to bid jobs and prepare material and equipment lists is required.
  • A good driving record and valid driver's license are required.
  • Ability to understand and follow company policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal laws is required.

  • Ability to work at heights and perform strenuous physical labor in varied field conditions is required.
  • Ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally is required.
Responsibilities
  • Repair, maintain, diagnose, test, and perform scheduled inspections on advanced mechanical refrigeration systems and associated equipment throughout the facility.
  • Provide preventative and corrective service on refrigeration and HVAC equipment.
  • Provide preventative and corrective service on screw, centrifugal, and reciprocating compressors.
  • Read blueprints, run conduit, wire devices, troubleshoot systems, and perform quality-control testing.
  • Read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings and code specifications to determine wiring layouts.
  • Troubleshoot, test, and repair electrical systems and power-distribution systems.
  • Use construction and fabrication skills.
  • Monitor safe work practices and safety guidelines.
  • Participate in all elements of the PSM/RMP programs.
  • Perform complete inspections with minimal errors.
  • Perform upgrades and preventive maintenance on mechanical and electrical control systems.
  • Provide informal and formal training for other team members.
  • Supervise team members.
  • Bid jobs as needed.
  • Work in convenience stores, grocery stores, food-service environments, and construction environments, including near refrigeration and HVAC equipment, elevated noise, extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and dust.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safe work practices.
