Requirements
  • A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse is required.
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state is required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
  • Registered nurses hired with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing must enroll in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing program within two years and successfully obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree within four years of the hire or reclassification date.
  • The employee must be able to perform the stated standing, sitting, walking, stair-climbing, bending, twisting, squatting, lifting, carrying, reaching, grasping, fine-manipulation, vision, hearing, sensory, and force-exertion functions.
  • The employee must be able to deal effectively with stressful situations, work rotating shifts, and work overtime as required.
  • The employee must be able to work in a latex-safe environment.
  • The employee must be physically qualified for respirator use when applicable.
Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized, goal-directed patient care to patients and families at the competent level using the principles and practices of the nursing process.
  • Provide nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Direct and lead assigned team members and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide age- and developmentally appropriate care in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Provide patient- and family-centered care addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs.
  • Develop nursing diagnoses, identify outcomes, plan and implement interventions, coordinate care, provide health teaching and promotion, and evaluate goals and interventions consistent with MUSC policies.
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment through patient privacy and responsive, respectful, accepting, and professional behavior.
  • Participate in shared governance, peer review, professional development, and a professional practice model that promotes leadership and clinical excellence.
  • Practice autonomously, remain accountable for actions, and apply critical thinking.
  • Coordinate effective and efficient patient care services through care management principles.
  • Identify clinical priorities and initiate actions to improve patient outcomes.
  • Promote a healthy work environment and accept personal responsibility for professional growth.
