Requirements
  • A PhD in a relevant field, such as applied linguistics, second language education, sociolinguistics, language education, or a related interdisciplinary field.
  • An academic and/or professional background relevant to the social, cultural, and political dimensions of second/additional language education.
  • Experience teaching, researching, and/or working in areas related to social issues in second/additional language education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of critical applied linguistics and related critical perspectives on second/additional language education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relationships among language, social identity, power, and linguistic diversity.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social, cultural, political, and institutional dimensions of second/additional language teaching, learning, and use.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of language planning, policy, and related issues affecting language education and language users.
  • Experience engaging learners in critical examination of social issues related to second/additional language education.
  • Knowledge of the impact of equity, diversity, and inclusion and experience integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to these principles.
  • Familiarity with myCourses, Zoom, or similar online platforms to facilitate quality teaching and learning experiences.
  • Familiarity with a variety of digital teaching and learning tools.
  • Familiarity with teaching blended classes.
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada and willing to work in Quebec at the campus where the position is based.
  • English communication skills, verbally and in writing.
Responsibilities
  • Teach EDSL 620: Social Justice Issues in Second Language Education, examining social identity, non-dominant languages, power relations among speakers, and their impact on second/additional language teaching, learning, and use from the perspective of critical applied linguistics.
  • Address topics ranging from individual-level issues to language planning and policy-making.

Club M&A and McGill's Dobson Centre launch acquisition programme as $218B in Canadian businesses set for ownership transition

Club M&A Canada and McGill's Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship have opened registration for their first Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition programme. The intensive four-day course, running 27–30 October in Montreal, targets professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs interested in acquiring existing small or medium-sized businesses. The programme addresses a significant succession challenge in Canada. According to the Business Development Bank of Canada, nearly one in five Canadian businesses will undergo ownership transition within five years, representing over $300 billion in business revenue. Marc Deegan, founder of R33 Ventures, will serve as programme director. The curriculum covers developing investment theses, target evaluation, financial and legal considerations, acquisition financing, and post-acquisition transition. Instructors include transaction professionals, lawyers, tax specialists, investors, and entrepreneurs with acquisition experience. Admission is by application, with no prior M&A experience required.
