Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience in civil construction quality control, with emphasis on underground utilities.
  • Strong knowledge of pipe installation standards, including ASTM, AWWA, and DOT specifications.
  • Experience with inspection and testing procedures and documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management and supervision.
  • Reading and writing comprehension sufficient to give and receive directions and perform work safely.
  • Ability to use mathematics and complete calculations.
  • Ability to work at various tempos and concentrate amid distractions.
  • Decision-making skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds, perform sedentary to heavy work, and operate office equipment and inspection hand gauges.
  • Ability to climb and maintain balance on frameworks, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds; traverse uneven terrain and multi-floor buildings; and perform bending, twisting, walking, reaching, squatting, sitting, standing, and lifting.
  • Ability to drive cars or trucks as needed.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and meet close-vision, distance-vision, and focus-adjustment requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and manage the project-specific Quality Control Plan.
  • Formulate and maintain quality-control objectives aligned with corporate policies and goals.
  • Create and implement inspection criteria and procedures.
  • Interpret quality-control processes, procedures, and philosophy for key project personnel.
  • Coordinate quality objectives with production procedures and client representatives to maximize operational compatibility and minimize costs.
  • Oversee inspection and testing of civil and underground utility work, including water, sewer, and storm-drainage systems, and conduct site audits and daily quality inspections as required.
  • Ensure compliance with contract documents, plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and third-party inspectors.
  • Schedule and manage required inspections and testing, including compaction, concrete, pipe-pressure, and mandrel testing.
  • Maintain accurate quality-assurance and quality-control documentation, reports, and logs.
  • Identify nonconformance issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Review submittals, shop drawings, and material certifications for compliance.
  • Ensure proper installation methods for trenching, bedding, backfill, and pipe laying.
  • Support project closeout with punch lists, as-builts, and final documentation.
  • Assist other craft workers as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certifications such as ACI Field Testing, ACI Flatwork, Certified Welding Inspector, or similar.
  • Proficiency in construction-management software and reporting tools.
