Requirements
  • Graduation from a Health Care Aide program or a provincial equivalent certificate program with a minimum of 500 hours of theory and practicum.
  • Experience working with seniors in a community health services setting.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer focus skills.
  • Demonstrated sound skills and knowledge in providing personal care duties.
  • Ability to perform tasks necessary for the position, including lifting and transferring clients.
  • Must provide a complete and current Vulnerable Sector Check, including a Criminal Background Check, within six months, or be willing to obtain one.
Responsibilities
  • Adhere to the plan of care determined by the supervisor.
  • Facilitate resident moves and transfers where applicable.
  • Observe and report on resident or client care and services using appropriate forms or tools.
  • Assist residents or clients with personal care, hygiene, and activities of daily living.
  • Observe and report changes in residents' or clients' condition to the supervisor.
  • Escalate medical emergencies to the supervisor or emergency medical services as appropriate.
  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals as required.
  • Assist with ambulation, mobilization, transferring, and adaptive aids.
  • Demonstrate understanding of resident or client needs and maximize their abilities.
  • Provide cognitive, social, emotional, and psychological support to residents, clients, and families.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of resident or client information.
  • Respond to resident, client, and family concerns and take appropriate action within decision-making authority, or communicate concerns to the supervisor.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment, including residents' or clients' equipment, belongings, and nursing equipment.
  • Report concerns regarding client safety to the Client Service Supervisor, implement interventions as directed, and advocate on the client's behalf to maintain safety.
  • Engage with other agencies involved in resident or client care as directed.
  • Attend in-service training to develop knowledge and skills.
  • Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults.
  • Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy, particularly regarding ethics, morality, and integrity, as set out in the Code of Conduct.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and First Aid certification is recommended.
