Requirements
  • An Associate's Degree is required.
  • A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse is required.
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state is required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time is required.
  • Proficiency in manual dexterity and fine motor skills for tasks such as taking patient vitals, administering injections, or conducting physical exams is required.
  • Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed is required.
  • Visual acuity and color perception to accurately read medical charts, documents, and monitors is required.
  • Auditory ability to effectively communicate with patients and colleagues and perceive important sounds such as alarms or patient instructions is required.
  • Stamina and resilience to handle the physical and emotional demands of providing patient care, including long shifts and potentially stressful situations, is required.
  • Mobility to navigate clinical environments, including moving between patient rooms, offices, and other areas of the facility, is required.
  • Compliance with infection control protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care to patients using the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Direct and lead assigned team members and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide age- and developmentally appropriate care in accordance with nursing standards of care and practice.
  • Provide patient- and family-centered care using the nursing process and address physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs.
  • Assess patients, develop nursing diagnoses, identify outcomes, plan and implement interventions, coordinate care, provide health teaching and promotion, and evaluate goals and interventions consistent with MUSC policies.
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment by ensuring patient privacy and responsive, respectful, accepting, and professional behavior.
  • Participate in a professional practice model, shared governance, peer review, professional development, and activities promoting leadership and clinical excellence.
  • Apply care management principles to coordinate the effective and efficient delivery of patient care services.
  • Identify clinical priorities and initiate action to improve patient outcomes.
  • Promote a healthy work environment and accept personal responsibility for professional growth.
