Responsibilities
  • Pitch news stories to media outlets including TV, print, digital, and radio
  • Establish and develop relationships with members of the press
  • Draft written messaging materials including op-eds, press releases, and talking points
  • Help manage accounts
  • Understand and manage complex issue campaigns
  • Devise and execute strategic public relations plans
  • Additional opportunities and responsibilities commensurate with job growth and client needs

Former rep. Jay Obernolte intern joins Washington public affairs firm DCI Group. Former U.S. Rep. Jay Obernolte (R-CA) intern Kimy Alexi Buere has joined Washington-based public affairs firm DCI Group as an account associate, reported DC Newsline. Buere, a 2024 graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, previously interned for Obernolte, R-Calif., and the Republican Policy Committee before serving as executive assistant at Alignment Government Strategies. She is originally from Southern California. At DCI, Buere will serve as an account associate in the firm's War Room, an early-career training program that gives new professionals experience in public affairs, strategic communications, government affairs and policy research while supporting client campaigns. Buere was one of four new account associates hired by DCI as part of a broader expansion that also included three internal promotions. "DCI's continued growth is a reflection of the results we deliver for our clients and their ongoing trust in us," DCI Managing Partner Justin Peterson said in the announcement. "Our firm is built around a culture of hard work, strategic execution, and winning for our clients every day. Washington and Lee grad receives promotion at DC-based public affairs firm. Washington, D.C.-based public affairs firm DCI Group announced the promotion of Washington and Lee University graduate Julia McGann to the position of account manager. A native of Westfield, N.J., McGann is a 2026 graduate of Washington and Lee with a bachelor's degree in political science and art history. DCI announced McGann's promotion, along with two other team members, Julia Jacobsen and Jacques McFadden, in a LinkedIn post. Jacobson previously interned at The Heritage Foundation, the Notre Dame Exoneration Justice Clinic, and Greenspring Media before joining DCI. She earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Notre Dame and is originally from Minnesota. McFadden joined DCI after interning at Fortyseven Communications. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. "One of the strengths of our firm is the caliber of people who come here, work hard, and grow," DCI Managing Partner Brian McCabe said.
