Requirements
  • A qualified archaeological technician must have a minimum of 12 months of specialized experience and/or a four-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to archaeology.
Responsibilities
  • Research the area to be surveyed to determine whether the sites have National Register-listed or eligible properties through a Class I inventory.
  • Travel to and visit the sites to perform on-site cultural resource surveys or monitoring when needed, likely through a Class III inventory.
  • Prepare the cultural survey report and send it to the Indian Health Service for review and submission to the State Historic Preservation Officer and/or Tribal Historic Preservation Officer for concurrence.
  • Provide archaeological monitoring as needed based on report findings and State Historic Preservation Officer or Tribal Historic Preservation Officer stipulations.
  • Provide two copies of the cultural resource survey, archaeological monitoring, or testing-plan report along with a PDF copy.
  • Include detailed color maps and required forms for the specific state of the survey in the report.
