AstraZeneca shares jump 7% as cancer drugs lift Q3 revenue to $16.21B and $1.5B savings plan

AstraZeneca shares rose nearly 7% on Friday after the drugmaker beat earnings forecasts and announced a cost-cutting plan. Investors increasingly believe its cancer drugs can replace revenue lost to cheaper generic rivals. Third-quarter revenue rose 7% to $16.21 billion. Core earnings were $2.79 per share, against $2.59 expected. Oncology revenue jumped 17%, with Enhertu sales up 35% and Imfinzi up 26%. The company plans to save $1.5 billion a year, mainly to fund research, though restructuring could cost up to $2 billion upfront. Sales of diabetes and heart drug Farxiga fell 25% amid generic competition. Chief executive officer Pascal Soriot said AstraZeneca is on track for its 2030 goal of $80 billion in annual revenue.

AstraZeneca shares jump 7.65% as it plans $2B restructuring to unlock $1.5B in annual savings

AstraZeneca shares rose 7.65% to $187.75 at 12:40 ET on October 30, after the drugmaker announced a restructuring with one-time costs of up to $2 billion. The plan targets $1.5 billion in annualised pretax benefits. AstraZeneca will reinvest the savings, mainly in its development pipeline. Third-quarter revenue reached $16.21 billion, up 7% at constant currencies. Full-year guidance was unchanged. At the targeted savings, the maximum restructuring bill equals about 1.3 years of gross savings. That figure excludes reinvestment and timing of implementation, so the earnings benefit depends on when savings arrive and how quickly the company spends them.

AstraZeneca profit jumps 23% to $3.12B as it launches $1.5B annual savings plan

AstraZeneca reported a 23% rise in third-quarter net profit and launched a programme to save $1.5 billion a year. The British drugmaker said profit after tax reached $3.12 billion, driven largely by its cancer treatments. Revenue grew 7% to $16.2 billion, with oncology making up 48% of the total. Net profit for the first nine months was $8.7 billion. The savings programme will cost $2.0 billion before it delivers the yearly benefits. AstraZeneca said it would reinvest the savings in its drug pipeline. Chief executive Pascal Soriot said the company has "multiple potential blockbuster" drugs in late-stage development. AstraZeneca remains on track for its 2030 target of $80 billion in annual revenue, up from nearly $59 billion last year. Its shares rose 3.1% in London.
