About the job
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
- Industrial pipe fabrication or welding experience.
- Experience with carbon steel, stainless steel, and/or alloy piping.
- Ability to read and follow fabrication drawings and welding documentation.
- Knowledge of welding processes, Welding Procedure Specification requirements, and quality expectations.
- Current 1G or 3G welding certification/company qualification for Fabricator/Welder 1; current 6G welding certification/company qualification for Fabricator/Welder 2; current 6G certification/qualification with demonstrated pipe-fitting proficiency for Fabricator/Welder 3.
- Ability to clean, grind, bevel, and cut materials; fit and tack straightforward assemblies with supervision; and understand basic drawings, weld symbols, and work instructions for Level 1.
- Ability to weld pipe in multiple positions with limited supervision; produce welds meeting visual and non-destructive examination requirements; verify joint preparation, alignment, dimensions, and material identification; read fabrication drawings, spool sheets, isometrics, and weld maps; and select appropriate welding procedure specifications, filler material, and welding equipment for Level 2.
- Ability to independently lay out, fit, tack, weld, and assemble complex piping; interpret drawings, isometrics, specifications, weld symbols, and bills of materials; calculate dimensions, offsets, takeouts, angles, and pipe lengths; and check orientation, elevation, slope, alignment, and dimensional accuracy for Level 3.
- Experience fitting pipe, flanges, elbows, tees, reducers, valves, and other components for Level 3.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex fit-up issues for Level 3.
- Commitment to working safely in a demanding shop environment.
- Weld and fabricate pipe spools and piping assemblies according to drawings, specifications, and welding procedure specification requirements.
- Perform pipe welding using qualified processes such as gas tungsten arc welding, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, and flux-cored arc welding.
- Fit, tack, align, and assemble piping components including pipe, flanges, elbows, tees, reducers, valves, and other fittings.
- Read and interpret fabrication drawings, spool sheets, isometrics, weld maps, and weld symbols.
- Use grinders, saws, cutting equipment, welding machines, positioners, and standard shop tools.
- Verify material, joint preparation, dimensions, alignment, and weld quality.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area while following the company's quality and safety standards.
- Help support and train Level 1 Fabricator/Welders for Level 2.
- Help train lower-level Fabricator/Welders for Level 3.
- May help coordinate daily shop work for Level 3.
