Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduation from an accredited Radiologic Technology Program.
  • Two years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist; previous angiography or cardiac catheterization experience is required.
  • Certified Radiologic Technologist certification from the California Department of Public Health.
  • Radiologic Technologist Fluoroscopy Permit from the California Department of Public Health.
  • Radiography certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Fire Life Safety Training for Los Angeles City; if not held upon hire, it must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained through renewal before expiration.
Responsibilities
  • Organize, plan, and direct activities relating to patients and procedures for the designated area when assigned by the Department Coordinator or Department Manager.
  • Serve as a scrub assistant or circulate for diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures.
  • Serve as a scrub assistant or circulate for structural heart repair procedures, including pulmonary and aortic valvuloplasty, ventricular septal defect, atrial septal defect, patent foramen ovale, and patent ductus arteriosus closures.
  • Serve as a scrub assistant or circulate for transcatheter valve replacement, MitraClip, and left atrial appendage occlusion procedures, and participate in clinical trial studies.
  • Serve as a scrub assistant or circulate for implant procedures such as implantable cardioverter-defibrillator procedures.
  • Set up, maintain, and operate rotational atherectomy (Rotablator) and thrombolysis (EKOS) equipment.
  • Set up, maintain, and operate interventional electrophysiology equipment for ablation, trans-septal ablations, mapping, and electrophysiology studies.
  • Assist with cardiovascular tests and record patients’ hemodynamic activity using specialized electronic test equipment, recording devices, and laboratory instruments.
  • Monitor and document physiological monitoring and recording equipment, and document all actions during procedures.
  • Recognize cardiac arrhythmias and hemodynamic waveforms and alert the credentialed provider and other team members during procedures according to protocol.
  • Manage patient arterial and venous access sites after procedures, including removing sheaths and safely managing hemostatic devices.
  • Prepare, maintain, and operate ventricular assist devices and intra-aortic balloon pumps.
  • Prepare, maintain, and operate intracardiac echocardiography, intravascular ultrasound, and ultrasound equipment.
  • Adjust technical factors in proportion to patient age and the body part examined while minimizing radiation.
  • Assist with training and guiding technologists cross-training in the Cath Lab department.
  • Confirm patient identity by checking name and birthdate.
  • Review physician notes and special instructions, and review them with the cardiologist and patient when necessary to ensure safety and appropriateness.
  • Recognize emergency situations, initiate a code, and properly administer aid as needed.
  • Provide radiation protection to patients, staff, and self according to prescribed safety standards.
  • Practice sterile technique and prevent cross-contamination of patients and instruments.
  • Record pertinent patient information, complete required paperwork, maintain files, ensure images are successfully archived on the cardiology PACS, and perform billing functions accurately and on time.
  • Keep Cath Lab rooms and workstations neat, orderly, and prepared; ensure exam rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies; and assist with ordering and stocking department supplies and equipment.
  • Participate in after-hours uncontrolled standby and call back, and use a pager while on duty and on standby.
  • Perform related duties, tasks, or projects outside the immediate work area as assigned or required, including scheduling, transport, and clerical work.
  • Maintain a cooperative atmosphere with other departments, medical staff, and fellow employees.
  • Use the chain of command appropriately to communicate concerns involving the department, coworkers, or medical staff.
  • Adapt cooperatively to changing procedures and goals.
  • Exhibit organizational skills and use time efficiently.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Electrophysiology experience, including EPS, atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia, or ventricular tachycardia ablation, and 3D mapping.
  • Interventional peripheral vascular experience, including percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, stenting, laser atherectomy, or carotid stenting.
  • Structural heart repair experience, including transcatheter aortic or mitral valve replacement, MitraClip, Watchman, pulmonic valve insertion, or septal closure.
  • Experience with cardiac support devices, including intra-aortic balloon pump, Impella, TandemHeart, or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.
  • Advanced American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification in Vascular, Cardiac, or Cardiovascular Radiography.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
