Requirements
  • Extensive experience developing embedded software for complex real-time systems.
  • Expert proficiency in C++11/14/17 and object-oriented software architecture.
  • Demonstrated ability to architect, design, and implement large software subsystems spanning application software, board support packages, field-programmable gate arrays, hardware interfaces, and distributed controls.
  • Strong understanding of software design patterns, scalability, maintainability, and diagnosability.
  • Deep expertise with QNX, Real-Time Linux, or equivalent real-time operating system environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of multithreaded and concurrent software design, interrupt-driven systems, real-time scheduling, memory management, direct memory access, interprocess communication mechanisms, device-driver architecture, and system performance optimization.
  • Significant experience debugging complex issues spanning software, field-programmable gate arrays, electronics, amplifiers, sensors, communication networks, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with board support package development, board bring-up, hardware abstraction layer design, device drivers, field-programmable gate array integration, and low-level hardware interfaces.
  • Ability to independently analyze and resolve difficult system-level failures encountered during development, manufacturing, or customer deployment.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership within Agile development environments.
  • Experience defining software architecture, coding standards, testing strategies, and development workflows.
  • Proficiency using source control, continuous integration and continuous delivery, automated testing, remote debugging, and release management processes.
  • Recognized expertise in at least one technical specialization: board support package or real-time operating system architecture, motion control systems, robotics algorithms, EtherCAT distributed controls, or industrial data analytics and artificial intelligence.
  • Experience working directly with customers to investigate and resolve critical field issues.
  • Experience leading technical root-cause investigations involving cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to translate customer requirements into technical solutions and architectural decisions.
  • Proven record of mentoring and developing less-experienced engineers.
Responsibilities
  • Architect, design, and implement large software subsystems across application software, board support packages, field-programmable gates arrays, hardware interfaces, and distributed controls.
  • Independently analyze and resolve system-level failures during development, manufacturing, and customer deployment.
  • Serve as a technical lead in at least one recognized technical specialization.
  • Act as the technical owner for controller architecture and hardware/software integration when specializing in board support packages, real-time operating systems, or field-programmable gates arrays.
  • Lead development of next-generation robot motion performance and control algorithms when specializing in motion control.
  • Define robot motion architecture and optimize cycle time, accuracy, and robustness when specializing in robotics.
  • Define distributed control architectures and resolve synchronization or performance issues when specializing in EtherCAT distributed controls.
  • Develop diagnostic and predictive service capabilities when specializing in data analytics, Industry 4.0, or artificial intelligence.
  • Lead design reviews and provide technical mentorship to other engineers.
  • Investigate and resolve critical customer field issues.
  • Lead cross-functional technical root-cause investigations.
  • Translate customer requirements into technical solutions and architectural decisions.
  • Mentor and develop less-experienced engineers.
