Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in human services or a care management field is required.
  • Two years of work experience in mental health or social services are required.
  • Previous utilization experience with managed care organization systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record systems is required.
  • Knowledge of Psychiatric Rehabilitation regulations, ASAM criteria, and medical necessity criteria is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, is required.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are required.
  • Strong critical-thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Strong computer skills and internet research abilities are required.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team is required.
  • Knowledge of the mental health system and support is required.
  • The employee must be available for local travel and on-call coverage as applicable.
  • The employee may be required to report to work during emergencies, including inclement weather.
  • The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate and thorough work logs for all reviews, including service documentation, authorized days, and authorization numbers.
  • Coordinate reviews and appeals and maintain denial logs.
  • Consult treatment team members to clarify documentation as needed.
  • Assist in identifying patterns of mis-utilization.
  • Participate in continuing education, maintain credentials and certifications, and attend case conferences for clinical and Psychiatric Rehabilitation updates.
  • Maintain and communicate authorization information to all team members.
  • Monitor charts and medical records in the database for high-quality documentation on a regular basis.
  • Educate new staff members about medical necessity and Psychiatric Rehabilitation Necessity criteria, high-quality documentation, and insurance requirements.
  • Develop relationships with payers and third-party insurance reviewers.
  • Support review of patient referrals for clinical and financial approval and escalate matters to leadership when required by Care Consideration grids.
  • Coordinate and facilitate pre-admission prior authorizations for participants from referral sources.
  • Coordinate scheduling with Intake services for transitions in services or to other levels of care.
  • Cross-train with the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Intake Specialist to support continuity of care and service delivery.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
