Requirements

  • At least 1 year of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
  • Support an ambulatory care facility with more than 20 providers and a variety of ancillary services.
  • Facilitate insurance registration and the patient check-in process.
  • Explain the billing process to patients.
  • Collect co-payments and charges for services rendered.
  • Post collected payments and facilitate the deposit of funds.
  • Verify active insurance information on file.
  • Monitor daily appointments to ensure patients are enabled to use kiosks when appropriate.
  • Ensure demographic information is accurate, complete, and up to date.
  • Facilitate completion of necessary patient forms and distribute them to appropriate departments.
  • Coordinate patient billing and reimbursement.
  • Manage accounts receivable and collections, post and allocate payments, and communicate with patients.
  • Assist patients with questions regarding account information and insurance coverage.
  • Review aged patient accounts to ensure appropriate account and reimbursement actions have been taken before submission to the Office of the University Bursar for collections.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Health Information Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two to four years of relevant experience.
  • Written and verbal communication skills and customer service experience.
  • Knowledge of insurance terminology, insurance claims, and accounting or business practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, RealMed, or other electronic claims-processing software.
  • Significant experience processing third-party insurance claims in a clinic or ambulatory care facility.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record systems and practice management systems.
  • Knowledge of International Classification of Diseases diagnostic coding, Current Procedural Terminology codes, benefit determination, and prior authorization.
  • Experience with computerized accounting systems.
