Requirements
- Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools, or another recognized regional or national accreditation board, or equivalent.
- Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified designation, or the ability to achieve it within six months of hire; failure to achieve or maintain the designation results in termination of employment.
- A valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider cardiopulmonary resuscitation card.
- Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except where legal requirements such as a license, certification, or registration apply.
Responsibilities
- Room patients, take vital signs, and reconcile records.
- Perform injections.
- Prepare and clean examination rooms.
- Submit medication prior authorizations.
- Recognize symptoms of common medical illnesses and accurately report them to the provider.
- Act as a liaison between patients, patients’ families, and providers.
- Assist providers with procedures and medical examinations.
- Perform point-of-care testing and report abnormal laboratory values.
- Assist in transporting patients as required.
