Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or Sports Management is required.
  • Six years of related experience is required, with additional education eligible to substitute for the minimum experience requirement.
  • A Master’s degree and four years of related experience may satisfy the minimum experience requirement.
  • Experience related to fitness and wellness or event management, including scheduling multiple spaces and programs, is required.
  • Experience with hiring and supervising a support staff or team is required.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and conflict-management skills are required.
  • Willingness to work weekends and evenings as needed is required.
  • All positions are security-sensitive, and employment is contingent upon a criminal history investigation and verification of credentials and other required information.
Responsibilities
  • Administer fitness and wellness programs, including group exercise, personal training, wellness seminars, employee wellness, beachfront small-group training, student wellness, and special events for the university community.
  • Plan, coordinate, and lead presentations, classes, and workshops on health-promotion and wellness topics.
  • Collaborate with campus partners and compile and produce semester and annual wellness-event calendars during the academic year.
  • Track client progress and adjust wellness plans to support continued success.
  • Collaborate with campus departments, including nutrition and the counseling center, to promote personal development and growth.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate wellness programs to improve the health of employees or clients.
  • Provide education and resources on nutrition, fitness, stress management, and other wellness topics.
  • Assist with and lead departmental and university-wide wellness special events.
  • Write, evaluate, implement, and support fitness and wellness policies for the program.
  • Gather participation numbers and demographic information for program enhancement.
  • Serve in a leadership role on the University Wellness Committee and collaborate with campus partners on wellness initiatives and event calendars.
  • Prepare, forecast, and monitor program-related budgets.
  • Prepare and submit quarterly and annual reports, financial reports, participation counts, goal updates, and key performance indicators.
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, mentor, evaluate, and manage a graduate assistant, weight-room trainer attendants, personal trainers, group exercise instructors, and fitness staff.
  • Progress clients through corrective-exercise programs safely and effectively.
  • Serve as the subject-matter expert on wellness topics and consult with internal and external partners on strategic wellness initiatives.
  • Assist with training for the Fusion software package and serve as the secondary point of contact for troubleshooting, training, and configuration.
  • Lead Campus Recreation’s student wellness initiatives and create, implement, and oversee a student wellness-coaching program focused on healthy lifestyles.
  • Coordinate, teach, and oversee American Red Cross CPR, AED, and First Aid certification courses and ensure personnel certifications are filed.
  • Oversee in-service training and meetings for group exercise instructors, personal trainers, wellness coaches, and fitness attendants and ensure staff training complies with operational requirements.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in Recreation or related Student Affairs areas is preferred.
  • Group Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer certification from a nationally recognized agency is preferred.
