Requirements
  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • For New Jersey positions, graduation from an accredited post-secondary medical assisting education program with at least 330 hours of instruction and training in intramuscular and subcutaneous injections is required.
  • Candidates must have knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with medical office procedures.
  • Candidates must be able to travel to various assigned locations.
  • Candidates must be able to use customer-communication practices, tools, and techniques.
  • Candidates must know common healthcare equipment and devices and be able to use them in patient care.
  • Candidates must understand health information relevance and appropriate documentation methods, including recording medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and medical results in written or electronic form.
  • Candidates must be able to read and interpret patient charts, including medication sheets, diets, histories and physicals, and tests, and apply this knowledge to patient care.
  • Candidates must provide clinical skills necessary for patient care, including history taking, therapeutic planning, and monitoring.
  • Candidates must understand factors contributing to quality patient care and be able to influence them positively.
  • Candidates must obtain Certified Medical Assistant certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants within 180 days.
  • Candidates must be able to lift and carry 40–50 pounds and perform frequent to continuous standing and walking.
  • Patient care providers may need to kneel, bend, squat, and perform CPR.
Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians as they assess, examine, and treat patients.
  • Manage patient flow.
  • Perform and document vital signs, clinical care quality measures, and medical history information.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms and ensure proper patient identification.
  • Remain proficient in the use of information technology systems and their documentation requirements within the established scope of practice.
  • Assist physicians with examinations and diagnostic procedures, including electrocardiograms, venipuncture, and injections, using appropriate patient-care skills.
  • Act as a liaison to physicians to support patient satisfaction.
  • Adhere to HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
  • Order clinical supplies to maintain inventory and facilitate smooth office operations.
  • Regularly work at three or more locations within the assigned area.
