Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED and one year of experience in electronic repair, shop work, general sciences, or physics, plus completion of a course in electronic equipment repair and/or medical equipment repair at a vocational, trade, or armed service school.
  • Certification from the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians, or being in the process of obtaining certification.
  • A high school diploma or GED.
Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support to the Department of Anesthesiology and assist Anesthesiology staff with equipment, supplies, and maintenance-related activities.
  • Operate verification procedures for anesthesia machines and monitors.
  • Check anesthesia equipment and supplies, gas tanks, and machine drop lines.
  • Set up operating rooms for each case with the Anesthesia staff.
  • Stock and refill all anesthesia carts with the corresponding supplies.
  • Ensure adequate supplies of adjunct anesthesia equipment, including blood warmers, convectional warming blankets, and syringe pumps.
  • Maintain an inventory of anesthesia-related medical-surgical supplies and order supplies accordingly.
  • Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs and replace parts in anesthesia equipment.
  • Coordinate major anesthesia-machine and equipment repairs with Biomedical Engineering and/or outside contractors, and track all repairs.
  • Track service contracts with outside vendors and coordinate preventive maintenance.
  • Manage crises involving other anesthetic, non-patient-related problems.
  • Clean all anesthesia machines and equipment, including fiber-optic scopes.
  • Replace oxygen, nitrous oxide, and medical-air tanks.
  • Fix problems with anesthesia equipment and machines.
  • Assist anesthesiologists with operating anesthesia machines and equipment.
  • Transport equipment and supplies when the Anesthesiology team provides services outside the operating room, including in MRI, CT scan, and MICU areas.
  • Complete an end-of-fiscal-year inventory of supplies and adjust supply levels accordingly.
  • Train and supervise the Storeroom Worker.
  • Order parts for medical equipment.
  • Participate in studies and research projects.
  • Review equipment malfunctions and recommend corrective action.
  • Complete inventories of medical-equipment parts and Anesthesiology Department supplies.
