Requirements
  • Ability to communicate appropriately with pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.

  • Ability to assist with initial visitation, meal rounds, snack/supplement rounds and obtaining food preferences to maintain an efficient program of patient contact.
  • Familiarity with managing specialty menus for allergies, calorie restrictions, halal, kosher, and vegan dietary needs, and assisting with special menu processes (e.g., red star menus) as needed.
  • Ability to communicate with Clinical Dietitian, Nutrition Data Center and Food Service Supervisors to meet patients' nutritional needs.
  • Ability to promptly notify Dietitian, Food Service Supervisor, Clinical Nutrition Manager or Patient Services Manager of complaints and document service recovery actions.
  • Follows established guidelines and uses appropriate food service communication procedures for nutritional interventions (e.g., communicating food preferences, obtaining snacks, notifying dietitian of requests for oral supplements, addressing food service complaints).
  • Ability to participate in department activities to improve/promote quality and efficiency.
  • Ability to perform assigned duties such as in-services, quality assurance monitoring, and projects to enhance departmental quality and efficiency.
  • Potential to participate in test tray completion for department quality improvement monitoring and reporting.
  • May be required to cross-train for the Feeding Technician position and assist with formula preparation as needed.
  • Maintains accurate records as required by regulatory agencies and department policies.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct nutrition screening of inpatients under the direction of the Clinical Nutrition Manager and follow up on nursing admission nutrition screening triggers and length of stay criteria.
  • Collect nutrition-related data from patient visits and report pertinent clinical information back to the dietitians for interventions as necessary and provide basic diet education when appropriate.
  • Work closely with department staff and other disciplines to ensure patient nutrition needs are met.
  • Assist with inpatient screening for nutritional risk and poor oral intake under the direction of Clinical Dietitians and document patient visits in the electronic medical record.
  • Interact with patients, families, and staff to manage menus and food preferences to meet patient needs and improve outcomes.
  • Maintain an efficient and effective program of patient contact by assisting with initial visitation, meal rounds, snack/supplement rounds and obtaining food preferences.

  • Follow established guidelines and use appropriate food service communication procedures for any necessary nutritional intervention (e.g., communicating food preferences, obtaining snacks, notifying dietitian of requests for oral supplements, handling food service complaints).
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to communicate appropriately to the age of the patients being served (pediatric, adult, geriatric).
  • Participate in activities to improve and promote the department.
  • Perform assigned duties (e.g., in-services, quality assurance monitoring, projects) to enhance departmental quality and efficiency.
  • May participate in completion of test trays for department quality improvement monitoring and reporting.
  • Under emergency situations, perform other duties as needed.
