Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree.
  • Three years of experience in a news, communication, marketing, advertising, or public relations program for a healthcare organization, college, news media organization, government agency, business, or other large knowledge-based organization; interviewing, writing, and editing; or media relations.
  • Alternatively, two years of qualifying experience plus one year of web content creation, editing, or publishing, or one year of event planning.
Responsibilities
  • Promote wider public recognition, awareness, and support of the organization's services, activities, and achievements through long-term communications strategies.
  • Serve as a contributing writer and assist with planning, developing, producing, and assessing communications across all media.
  • Develop multimedia content, including digital video, audio, and still photography.
  • Maintain regular contact with organizational sources to solicit information for news releases, opinion pieces, web features, and other communication vehicles.
  • Interview faculty and professional staff on medical and scientific topics and explain the organization and its research to public and other audiences.
  • Present information to faculty, staff, and the public in an accessible and compelling form, coordinating with communicators across the organization.
  • Participate in planning special events with communications, public relations, or marketing needs.
  • Organize and coordinate the work of other staff and students as assigned.
  • Develop and direct clear communication strategies and messages, maintaining consistency across the organization.
  • Maintain positive relations with public, state and federal officials, constituency groups, and stakeholders.
  • Write advertising copy, television and radio scripts, publications, website content, and speeches.
  • Coordinate video and photography shoots.
  • Perform communications work in internet/intranet, publications, news, or corporate communication/community relations assignments as directed.
