- Graduation from a Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
- Certification or eligibility for certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology.
- At least one year of experience.
- Manual dexterity for manipulating equipment functions.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Proficiency in Meditech, radiology information systems, and teleradiology systems.
- Inspect monitors and document all radioisotopes from receipt through disposal, including daily administration of radiopharmaceuticals.
- Perform various nuclear imaging procedures and discuss procedure appropriateness with radiologists.
- Inspect and document isotopes received according to department policy.
- Dispose of decayed isotopes according to departmental policy and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines.
- Perform equipment quality control, including daily floods, weekly bar phantoms, daily calibrations, and maintenance of pertinent logs.
- Prepare patients for procedures and provide instructions, teaching, emotional support, and obtain procedural consent.
- Review physician orders for proper indications and ensure all necessary information is available for the radiologist.
- Follow aseptic technique and safely handle radioisotopes while preparing patient dosages.
- Perform venipuncture according to policy.
- Perform imaging procedures on all gamma cameras in Nuclear Medicine.
- Develop, inspect, and label images for radiologist review.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff with regard to radiation safety.
- Address issues involving patient comfort and complaints.
- Discuss cases with radiologists and referring physicians.
