Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Imaging Program.
  • Obtain Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVT) certification through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) certification through Cardiovascular Credentialing International within two years of hire.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
  • No experience is required for Level 1; vascular sonographers with less than 12 months of experience enter at Level 1.
  • Sit for extended periods of time.
  • Lift, push, or pull a minimum of 40 pounds.
  • Function without lip reading, with hearing aids permitted.
  • Have corrected visual acuity for distant and near objects and the ability to read small print.
  • Possess interpersonal skills to communicate, negotiate, and resolve conflict.
  • Interact cooperatively with the health care team to support shared group goals.
Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced non-invasive vascular imaging procedures within established guidelines and timeframes.
  • Perform proper billing of procedures and prioritize patient scheduling.
  • Coordinate and prioritize patient scheduling to ensure timely procedure completion.
  • Obtain information about procedures before testing and answer patients' questions about the procedures.
  • Notify appropriate medical staff of significant abnormal findings.
  • Document completed procedures in the patient chart to inform the physician.
  • Calculate and measure vascular structures from procedure data to aid physician interpretation and diagnosis.
  • Maintain the orderliness and cleanliness of equipment, procedure rooms, and work areas.
  • Complete accurate documentation through EPIC to ensure proper billing.
  • Participate in education and in-service opportunities to maintain and enhance knowledge.
  • Provide a timely preliminary report on each study and review it with the physician.
  • Follow and implement vascular protocols and policies.
  • Participate in training others in vascular ultrasound techniques and procedures.
