Requirements
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent foreign degree required
  • Veterinary license in good standing or eligibility for licensure with all applicable state veterinary boards for assigned hospitals
  • 3 years of experience in small animal medicine and surgery practice
  • Must obtain state-controlled substance license and federal Drug Enforcement Administration license within 3 months of employment, unless state requires otherwise
  • Accredited by the United States Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service National Veterinary Accreditation Program within 3 months of employment
  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time
  • Project timelines and work volume may require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job
  • Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability to perform the duties proficiently
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables
  • Requires sufficient ambulatory skills to perform duties while at hospital
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate up to 50 pounds
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, finger-hand-arm dexterity with ability to reach and grasp and visual acuity to use keyboard and operate necessary equipment
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderately high
  • Associate is routinely exposed to variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards and medication/controlled substances
  • Some travel required to assist other area hospitals as well as for vendor visits and associate education
Responsibilities
  • Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team
  • Act as Responsible Veterinarian for Veterinary and Pharmacy Board Permits as required by federal, state, or local law
  • Own doctor engagement and retention by assessing risk, proactive retention strategy, and creating a culture of community and engagement
  • Provide effective medical leadership to hospital teams by driving an inclusive and collaborative work environment in partnership with the practice managers
  • Validate the clinical skillset and alignment with quality standards of doctors, veterinary assistants, and veterinary technicians by performing medical record reviews, veterinary quality assignments, audits and patient safety event reviews
  • Provide veterinary services with time spent in clinical role determined case-by-case; 100% hospital based and working manager role
  • Oversee the coaching program for newly hired veterinarians to ensure engaging experience and development of clinical, surgical, and dental skills
  • Partner with Director of Veterinary Quality and Talent Acquisition to recruit veterinary talent; act as brand ambassador in local veterinary community; deliver excellent hospital experience to externs and candidates during observations
  • Work with associate doctors to ensure skills to achieve productivity goals through high-quality medicine, preventive care, client experience, and collaboration with hospital team
  • Deliver veterinary operations KPI's of assigned hospitals; partner with practice manager to develop, execute, and revise plans to achieve KPIs; accountable to hospital OGSM performance
  • Develop a veterinary leadership talent bench and succession plan for assigned hospital pod
  • Ensure compliance to Banfield's clinical essentials, government regulations, and veterinary industry standards through quality assessments, medical record reviews, audits, and patient safety reviews; ensure regulatory compliance including controlled substance management and radiation safety; create and execute plans to resolve gaps
  • Champion preventive care culture to drive wellness plan growth and retention
  • Create a say yes culture by driving access to care and client service to meet or exceed client experience scorecard goals; resolve client complaints
  • Manage medical equipment inventory and new equipment requests in partnership with Director of Veterinary Quality
  • Deliver highest level of veterinary care professionally and ethically with exceptional client experience
  • Establish trust with clients through preventive care, diagnostic workups, treatment plans, home care instructions, and follow-up planning
  • Other duties as assigned
