Requirements

  • Able to collaborate with peers and mentor apprentice technicians to maintain shop productivity.
  • Able to stay current on Automotive Service Excellence certifications, manufacturer training, and technical bulletins.
  • Able to operate tools and equipment safely and comply with all regulatory standards.
  • Automotive Service Excellence certifications are preferred but not required.
  • State emission certification is preferred but not required.
  • State vehicle inspector certification is preferred but not required.
  • Manufacturer training is required.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform work outlined on repair orders efficiently and accurately in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Diagnose the causes of vehicle malfunctions and perform repairs.
  • Communicate with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Save and tag parts when required under warranty or requested by the customer.
  • Examine assigned vehicles to determine whether additional safety or service work is required or recommended.
  • Sell lubrication, safety inspections, and other related services.
  • Drain oil from crankcases and refill them with the required amount of oil.
  • Replace oil and filters.
  • Inspect vehicle fluid levels and replace or replenish fluids as necessary.
  • Check tire pressure and add air when needed.
  • Immediately communicate with the service advisor when additional work is needed, listed work is unnecessary, or repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
  • Document all work performed and recommended on repair orders.
  • Road-test vehicles when required.
  • Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
  • Stay current on manufacturer technical bulletins.
  • Supervise the work of apprentice technicians when assigned.
  • Report machinery defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Keep customers' vehicles clean and immediately notify the service advisor of anything that changes the vehicle's appearance or condition.
  • Keep the shop area neat and clean.
  • Maintain and be accountable for dealership-owned tools and manuals, returning them to the proper place and condition.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Operate tools and equipment safely.
  • Report safety issues immediately to management.
Desired Qualifications
  • Automotive Service Excellence certifications.
  • State emission certification.
  • State vehicle inspector certification.
