Requirements
  • An earned PhD in Animal Science or a closely related discipline from an accredited university is required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of disciplinary subject matter at a level adequate for graduate-level instruction are required.
  • Written and oral communication skills sufficient to conduct effective teaching and research activities are required.
  • Ability to interact with students, staff, and faculty in a professional, collegial, and collaborative manner is required.
  • The position requires potential access to hazardous materials and laboratories and the ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lectures, seminars, and/or laboratory offerings to undergraduate and/or graduate students.
  • Develop course syllabi, select instructional materials, and design assessments such as exams, quizzes, and papers.
  • Assess student performance, provide timely feedback, and evaluate student learning outcomes to inform teaching practices and curriculum improvements.
  • Engage students in active learning, foster critical thinking skills, and provide opportunities for discussion, collaboration, and hands-on learning.
  • Provide academic support and guidance to students through office hours, feedback on assignments, and mentoring.
  • Adhere to university policies, academic integrity standards, and accreditation requirements related to teaching responsibilities.
  • Incorporate innovative teaching methods, technologies, and pedagogical approaches to enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development activities to stay current in the field, improve teaching skills, and explore new instructional strategies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, departmental faculty, and university staff to coordinate course offerings, share resources, and contribute to program development and improvement.
  • Participate in institutional service roles, including college committees, advisory committees, student and faculty recruitment, and mentoring new and part-time faculty.
  • Maintain an active agenda for research and/or scholarship appropriate to the academic discipline.
  • Make original contributions to the advancement of knowledge through scholarly publication and/or presentation.
  • Demonstrate potential for external funding, national impact, or professional recognition.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students, including master's and doctoral students, through their academic and research endeavors.
  • Participate in the necessary operation of the institution.
Desired Qualifications
  • Teaching and/or research background in meat science or related fields.
  • Experience as a faculty member in a department with a PhD in Animal Science.
  • Experience and documented success in securing extramural funding and mentoring graduate students pursuing Master of Science and PhD degrees.
