About the company

Grupo Mariposa runs food and beverage businesses serving consumers across Latin America and other markets. Its portfolio includes cbc, a beverage maker; beliv, a house of proprietary drink brands; and Bia, whose businesses cover coffee, culinary products and sweet snacks. Across the group, companies manufacture and sell branded drinks and packaged foods, manage distribution networks, and operate restaurant concepts. They generate revenue through branded product sales, beverage bottling, wholesale distribution and food-service operations, using channels tailored to retail and dining customers. The group traces its operating roots to 1885, when it began as a beverage maker, and is headquartered in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

What believers are saying

  • Family support is tailored: Mariposa says Creciendo Juntos combines employee data with expert partnerships to address household needs.
  • Restaurant teams have a shared-system plan: BIA selected SynergySuite in June 2026 for labor, inventory and purchasing across 120-plus restaurants.
  • Graduates cross business boundaries: CBC's Guatemala trainee program assigns projects across departments and countries to prepare recruits for greater responsibility.

What critics are saying

  • Refinancing leaves limited spare cash: September 2026's Fitch forecast put CBC's free cash flow near zero or negative through 2029.
  • The trainee path requires mobility: Beliv's Guatemala opening requires B2 English and availability for two months of foreign travel.
  • Regional exposure affects credit strength: Fitch's September 2026 review flags CBC's smaller scale and weaker Caribbean and South American economies.

What makes Grupo Mariposa unique

  • Bottling rests on a longstanding partnership: Grupo Mariposa became Pepsi's official bottler in Guatemala in 1942.
  • Distribution uses targeted selling tools: CBC says presale and customer-segmentation technology supports more than 2 million points of sale.
  • Acquisitions have an integration team: Mariposa's corporate Apex unit supports acquired businesses; its CEO reported over 40 integrations in 2023.
