Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record for the last three years are required.
  • A full-time commitment for six months, from mid-May to December, is required.
  • The candidate must be able to lift more than 75 pounds.
  • The candidate must be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and able to reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and work on uneven terrain, at varying heights, in confined spaces or supported trenches.
  • The candidate must be able to work overtime and weekends as necessary.
  • Candidates should have a safety-conscious mindset.
Responsibilities
  • Perform construction materials testing on soils, concrete, masonry and asphalt.
  • Conduct onsite materials testing on commercial and transportation construction projects.
  • Work with project managers and other technicians to ensure specifications are followed.
  • Participate in technical training covering construction safety, soil compaction and classification, American Concrete Institute certification, radiation safety, materials laboratory work and nuclear density gauge training.
  • Learn procedures and gain exposure to ASTM, AASHTO, ACI, ICC and DOT standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • Be a college student working toward a degree in engineering, construction management or a related field.
  • Have experience driving a pickup truck or other large vehicle.
  • Have work-related experience such as landscaping, construction or farming.
  • Have mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills.
  • Have related work experience; training will be provided to strong applicants.
