Requirements
  • The candidate must have at least 3 years of technical recruiting experience, ideally at a startup or in artificial intelligence or machine learning.
  • The candidate must have strong sourcing skills and a warm, active network in the artificial intelligence and engineering talent market, including RL-environment talent.
  • The candidate must be able to move quickly, operate independently, wear multiple hats, sell a difficult mission, and win candidates who have competing offers.
  • The candidate must be familiar with artificial intelligence and machine learning roles and terminology, especially reinforcement-learning environments, agentic tasks, and machine-learning infrastructure work, and be able to distinguish strong engineers from candidates who only sound technically capable.
  • The candidate must be able to use data to improve time-to-fill, offer-acceptance rate, funnel conversion, and source of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Hire 10–15 technical people in the first year, primarily RL-environments engineers, Strategic Project Leads, and research engineers, while maintaining the company’s hiring bar.
  • Keep median time-to-fill for priority RL-environment engineering roles near 30 days from posting through offer acceptance by maintaining a warm pipeline.
  • Achieve an offer-acceptance rate of at least 75%, including competition with Scale AI, Surge AI, Mercor, and frontier labs.
  • Improve applicant-tracking-system pipeline conversions, scorecard-based interviews, the sourcing playbook, and the intake-and-debrief cadence with hiring managers.
  • Recruit people who perform and remain with the company, and increase Bespoke’s visibility in the RL-environment and data-curation talent market through inbound recruiting and referrals.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior technical recruiting experience at a startup or in artificial intelligence or machine learning is preferred.

Bespoke Labs builds the infrastructure and realistic, company-scale reinforcement learning environments needed to train AI agents for long-running, real-world tasks. Its platform combines an environment engine, a high-throughput sandboxing layer, and an agent-optimization layer that uses the GEPA evolutionary algorithm to tune prompts and policies, enabling agents to learn from and be evaluated on multi-step workflows. It differentiates itself by delivering end-to-end production-grade training infrastructure for frontier AI labs and enterprises, while contributing open benchmarks like Terminal-Bench and datasets like OpenThoughts to the broader community. The goal is to reduce AI agent unreliability in real-world settings and become a key partner for companies building agentic AI at scale.

Bespoke Labs announces $40M to build the environments that train reliable agents.

Bespoke Labs announces $40M to build the environments that train reliable agents. July 7, 2026 Press play to listen to this content MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., July 7, 2026 - Bespoke Labs, an AI agent training platform, has announced that it has raised $40 million across a Series A round led by Wing VC, with participation from Mayfield, The House Fund, dbt Labs CEO Tristan Handy, and other angels from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Meta, as well as a seed round led by 8VC, with participation from Jeff Dean, Resolve AI CEO Spiros Xanthos, DevRev CEO Dheeraj Pandey, and others. The company will use the additional capital to expand its research team, scale its environment-building infrastructure, and accelerate its business momentum. Today's AI agents are powerful but unreliable. They can write code, answer questions, and complete short tasks, but they still struggle to operate autonomously over hours or days the way a human coworker does. To improve, agents need realistic environments to practice in, learn from, and be measured against. Independent benchmarks from METR show that the length of tasks AI agents can reliably complete has been doubling roughly every seven months. Sustaining that trajectory requires environments that grow in complexity at the same pace, which is exactly the problem Bespoke Labs was built to solve. Bespoke Labs is behind the environments and tooling that sit underneath reliable agents. The company designs and builds environments that look and behave like real companies: large codebases, microservices, realistic logs, tickets, email, Slack, and more, so agents can learn long-horizon workflows that are economically meaningful. "Frontier labs, enterprises, and all organizations relying on reliable agents need access to high-quality environments," said Mahesh Sathiamoorthy, co-founder and CEO of Bespoke Labs. "This is the critical piece needed to optimize and develop agents. That's why we are focused on doing research around environments, building the infrastructure around environments, and building the environments themselves." Once the environments exist, Bespoke Labs helps organizations measure and improve agents using techniques like Genetic-Pareto Agent Optimizer (GEPA), which automates prompt and policy search to reach higher accuracy faster than manual prompt engineering. Bespoke Labs' customers use its infrastructure to train, evaluate, and optimize their agents. While other companies build simple, app-level environments using contractors, Bespoke Labs builds cutting-edge reinforcement learning environments using research techniques that the company develops in collaboration with the academic and open-source community. "We work with labs on research programs spanning reinforcement learning, environment curation, benchmarking, and long-horizon modeling so that environments keep pace with the frontier of agent capabilities," said Alex Dimakis, co-founder and Chief Science Officer of Bespoke Labs. "I'm proud that we are a research lab pushing the frontier on environment infrastructure and curation." Bespoke Labs takes a research-first approach. The team is made up of research scientists and engineers, not the project managers and contractors that other companies rely on. Bespoke Labs is a core contributor to Terminal-Bench, one of the most widely cited benchmarks for agentic capability, and the team behind OpenThoughts, an open reasoning dataset that has been downloaded more than 500,000 times and used by groups including Thinking Machines Lab, Meta, and Amazon. That same research muscle powers the company's environment work: novel curation pipelines, methods for generating environments synthetically, and techniques for snapshotting real-world infrastructure and recreating it as a training environment. "As frontier labs and AI-native enterprises push the boundaries of long horizon agentic capabilities, a new generation of data and training infrastructure is required," said Peter Wagner, Founding Partner of Wing Venture Capital. "Mahesh and Alex deeply understand the needs of leading AI researchers, and are building Bespoke Labs on a unique research-driven foundation to help advance and scale the state of the art." About Bespoke Labs Bespoke Labs is a research lab building the environments and infrastructure that make AI agents reliable. Founded in 2024 by Mahesh Sathiamoorthy and Alex Dimakis, Bespoke Labs builds the reinforcement learning environments and infrastructure that let frontier labs and enterprises train, evaluate, and improve long-horizon agents for production. Bespoke Labs leads with open research, actively contributing to OpenThoughts, Terminal-Bench, and GEPA. The company has financial backing from Wing VC, 8VC, Mayfield, The House Fund, Jeff Dean, Resolve AI CEO Spiros Xanthos, DevRev CEO Dheeraj Pandey, dbt Labs CEO Tristan Handy, as well as other angels from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Meta.
