Requirements
  • A master's degree in nursing is required, with education verified.
  • At least two years of nursing experience are required.
  • An unencumbered registered nurse license is required.
  • An active, unencumbered license in the designated state is required.
  • The candidate must comply with site-specific orientation and onboarding requirements.
  • The candidate must meet applicable state and federal legislative requirements and college accreditation requirements for the necessary credentialing.
  • Work history must demonstrate continuous advancement and success in roles requiring creative problem solving and collaboration.
Responsibilities
  • Teach and mentor students during experiential clinical coursework.
  • Provide specialized instruction on challenging experiential and clinical coursework for an assigned group of students.
  • Interact with students in group and one-on-one settings.
  • Oversee clinical learning to ensure students are successful within their clinical placement setting.
  • Serve as a professional role model for students in communication, ethical comportment, and problem-solving.
  • Provide expertise in an assigned content area and maintain current knowledge in the field.
  • Participate in implementing the philosophy and goals of the program.
  • Foster student learning through innovative teaching practices, including teaching students how to perform duties in the clinical setting.
  • Respond to student needs and communicate professionally and respectfully with students and members of the WGU community.
  • Make appropriate student referrals for remediation or other needs using WGU policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with the student's assigned coach or preceptor about student progress and concerns.
  • Provide final review and approval of students' clinical time.
  • Offer proactive support and outreach to assigned students.
  • Use technology-based teaching and communication platforms to help students develop competencies.
  • Submit electronic clinical student evaluation forms after completion of a clinical intensive.
  • Collaborate with university professionals to promote a positive student-focused environment.
  • Maintain working knowledge and understanding of relevant state regulations.
  • Conduct in-person and remote methods of student evaluation.
  • Support the Health Placement Team in securing clinical partnerships.
Desired Qualifications
  • A doctorate or terminal degree in a specific content area is preferred.
  • Strong experience with distance education and distance-learning students is preferred.
  • Prior experience in clinical teaching or nursing education is preferred.
