Requirements
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact with students.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse populations through formal training or past work experience.
  • Ability to provide quality customer service.
  • For credit classes transferable toward a higher degree, a master's degree or higher and at least 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline are required.
  • For workforce education degree or certificate courses, academic preparation and work experience are required, including three years of direct or related work experience other than teaching.
  • For developmental courses, a bachelor's degree or higher in the specific teaching discipline and demonstrated competency through teaching experience, honors, graduate coursework, or other related accomplishments are required.
  • May be required to lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Official transcripts are required at the time of interview.
  • Subject to a criminal background check; some positions may be subject to a fingerprint check.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Responsibilities
  • Teach students effectively in assigned classes and maintain office hours for student consultation.
  • Provide students with a written course syllabus.
  • Participate in evaluation of the instructional process and use innovative strategies to improve learning.
  • Support the discipline by recommending books and materials, revising curricula, and recommending teaching assignments when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and complete course records.
  • Perform professional activities and assume professional responsibilities agreed upon with the division dean.
  • Use knowledge of diverse communities and learning styles to incorporate varied learning styles into instruction.
  • Participate in student advising and registration.
  • Use technology to facilitate learning, access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others.
  • Complete professional assignments in accordance with the system calendar and contractual obligations.
  • Comply with Dallas College board policies, state and federal policy, and the student code of conduct as appropriate.
  • Support college mission and goals by participating in planning division objectives and budget requests.
  • Serve on and attend college committees as assigned.
  • Participate in campus commencement exercises as required and attend required college meetings and activities.
  • Participate in one's own performance appraisal.
  • Work effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds.
  • Work with student clubs and organizations when assigned.
  • Use verbal and written communication to support interaction between Dallas College and organizations, businesses, community groups, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Promote the college in the community through marketing activities.
  • Participate in professional development activities and complete required professional development training hours each academic year.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
