Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of employment and before patient care is administered independently.
  • The role requires frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and reaching, and occasional sitting, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and twisting.
  • Visual and hearing acuity and color vision are required.
  • The role may involve exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals or detergents, moving mechanical parts, potential electric shock, radiant energy, communicable diseases, and bloodborne pathogens.
Responsibilities
  • Provide supportive care under the supervision of a licensed nurse to meet individual patient needs.
  • Serve as a patient advocate within the healthcare system.
  • Perform patients’ daily comfort and care needs and assist nurses and other healthcare team members with patient care.
  • Provide daily clerical support to the nursing unit as needed.
  • Assist with the safety, comfort, care, and treatment of patients according to established standards.
  • Participate in the hospital’s quality improvement and service excellence programs.
  • Deliver appropriate patient care, including assistance with activities of daily living and obtaining vital signs.
  • Adhere to infection prevention protocols.
  • Respect patient rights, including confidentiality, informed consent, and privacy.
  • Participate in systemic, interdisciplinary, and ongoing process improvement to achieve client-centered outcomes.
  • Meet mandatory and continuing education and competence-validation requirements.
  • Support department-based goals and serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Maintain patient charts accurately and neatly.
  • Monitor clerical supplies for the unit, including printed forms, paper products, and ink or toner cartridges.
  • Communicate clearly, concisely, and courteously and manage time efficiently.
  • Acknowledge people approaching the desk and offer assistance immediately.
  • Participate in survey-readiness activities and ensure departmental compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Follow the hospital’s Legal Compliance Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and appropriately handle protected health information.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and report safety concerns appropriately.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Interact effectively with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Use non-invasive monitoring systems, intravenous infusion pumps, and oxygen and suction equipment.

  • Prior healthcare experience is preferred.
