Requirements
  • A college or university degree from an accredited school or college is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline is required.
  • Current Illinois licensure or eligibility for Illinois licensure/registration is required.
  • Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office is required.
  • The employee must be willing to enter into a written collaborative agreement with a collaborating physician upon hire.
  • A current resume or curriculum vitae is required for the application.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive care to adolescent and young adult patients ages 18-40 within the Hematology/Oncology section.
  • Manage the care of assigned patients, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Document patient history and physical examinations and changes in management according to government guidelines in the outpatient clinic.
  • Arrange diagnostic tests, follow up on test results, and address other patient care issues.
  • Staff assigned clinics and attend multidisciplinary conferences for assigned disease areas.
  • Report to government agencies, review charts, refill prescriptions, and answer patient phone calls for patients receiving longitudinal care.
  • Attend conferences and continuing education courses to remain current on hematology/oncology patient management.
  • Perform bone marrow biopsies, suture removal, intrathecal chemotherapy administration, and lumbar punctures.
  • Evaluate patient goals and outcomes based on benefit versus burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes in each patient's plan of care.
  • Perform other related work as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Once licensed and as needed, apply for a mid-level practitioner controlled substance license and Drug Enforcement Administration number.
  • Be privileged and credentialed through the University of Chicago Medicine Medical Staff Office before the start date.
  • Conduct physical examinations and health assessments.
  • Interview patients and obtain medical information.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of computers.
  • Demonstrate clinical competency, effective leadership, and teaching skills.
  • Work independently with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical skills.
