Requirements
  • Hold a PhD or a medical degree with research training or have equivalent expertise related to Indigenous health gained outside traditional academic career paths
  • Have formal research training and evidence of a research track record in an appropriate discipline
  • Provide evidence of scholarly excellence with the potential to obtain external research funding
  • Have a proven track record of research productivity
  • Demonstrate a commitment to, and evidence of, high-quality teaching and inclusive pedagogy with a record of collegiality and synergistic collaboration
  • Have developed an internationally recognized independent research program with a demonstrated ability to obtain grants and external funding (e.g., CIHR, FRQS, CCSRI, CPAC), and the capacity to contribute to the building of successful research programs
  • Be able to foster collaborative relationships through effective communication, interpersonal skills, and strategic team building
  • Fluency in English is essential; a working knowledge of French, or a commitment to acquiring it within a few years of appointment is preferred
Responsibilities
  • Be actively involved in the academic activities of the Department of Family Medicine and demonstrate aptitude, enthusiasm, and excellence in research, pedagogy, and supervision
  • Maintain an ambitious research program in family medicine and/or primary healthcare of the highest international standards and disseminate findings through peer-reviewed publications and other knowledge translation activities
  • Contribute to formal teaching of graduate courses, develop courses at all levels in areas of specialization, supervise and mentor graduate students, contribute to the intellectual life of the department and the University, and develop Indigenous academic leadership capacity
  • Contribute to the academic mission of the department in areas such as Indigenous health research or clinical innovation, course development addressing Indigenous health priorities and ways of knowing for health professional or graduate students, or curricular reform
  • Be involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees)
  • Contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community
  • Demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience employing community-based participatory research methods
  • Experience in Indigenous health research or knowledge translation with Indigenous communities
  • Demonstrated leadership in Indigenous health or related programs
  • Record of international recognition and leadership in Family Medicine or Primary Care
  • Track record of securing external funding from major agencies such as Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Fonds de recherche du Quebec – Santé, and other national funders
