Requirements

A high school diploma or GED is required.

Responsibilities

Organize, prioritize, and obtain blood draw requests, including trauma, stat, ASAP, timed, morning, and routine requests.
Operate the hospital tube system to receive incoming specimens, distribute them to the appropriate area, send labels for collection, and send reports and other requested items according to hospital policy.
Receive outpatient laboratory specimens and requisitions according to department policies, ensure the correct specimen type, and verify complete patient identification information.
Operate the Hospital Information System to order, cancel, and add laboratory test requests; retrieve patient information and specimen collection summaries; register patients; fax and print chart reports; and remove, distribute, and organize bar code labels for daily procurement.
Greet visitors, patients, customers, and staff at the reception window or designated area.
Operate telecommunication equipment, including telephones, pagers, and fax machines; respond to queries, take detailed messages, forward test results, and direct calls to appropriate areas.
Maintain equipment and supplies, blood collection trays, work areas, and outpatient drawing stations.
Handle incoming and outgoing mail for physician, patient, and department distribution.
Oversee training of new employees and assist the supervisor in coordinating daily work assignments.
Interface with nursing in the absence of the Team Leader and Supervisor to resolve most complaints involving phlebotomy, specimen receiving and processing, and customer service.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications

Six months of experience is preferred for the Network Float Pool.

JOB SUMMARY
