  • A US Citizenship is required; Dual citizenship is not permitted
  • A Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or another Mechanical Engineering discipline (e.g., biomedical or computer Mechanical Engineering) is required; a Master’s or Ph.D. is a plus
  • Candidate must demonstrate five (5) years of design experience in the nuclear or process chemical industry
  • A Professional Engineering (PE) License is required
  • A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
  • The candidate must have the ability to walk down systems in the field
  • The ability to pass and maintain a DOE Security Clearance or DOE access/clearance appropriate for the role
  • Experience with ASME B31.3 code requirements
  • Experience with design, construction, operation, and testing in nuclear or DOE facility environments
  • Experience reading and understanding drawings, diagrams, procurement packages, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, System Descriptions, Mechanical Equipment Lists, etc.
  • Familiarity with CAD and other mechanical design software; 2D MicroStation experience is preferred
  • Experience with DOE and Nuclear Safety related qualifications and requirements (Nuclear Criticality Safety, Radiological Engineering, Fire Protection, etc.) preferred
  • Knowledge of safety rules and laws on nuclear power use
  • Ability to coordinate with Project Managers for resource allocation
  • Ability to supervise and mentor engineering team members
  • Ability to prepare and deliver technical papers and engineering studies
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with construction, testing and project turnover
  • Experience with change control processes (Design Change Control, Change Orders, Temporary Modifications)
  • Experience with maintenance/plant operations software (Smart Plant, Champs, Maximo) a plus
  • Knowledge of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and other mechanical engineering concepts
  • U.S. Citizenship Required
Responsibilities
  • Act as and be recognized as a Company/industry expert resource on the most complex engineering problems
  • Analyzing and testing prototypes and each revision of a device
  • Collaborating with Project Managers for proper allocation and tracking of resources
  • Conduct site visits and experimental investigations, analyze engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations
  • Coordinate and work closely with other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements
  • Designing and developing prototypes
  • Develop, maintain and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications
  • Developing, initiating, and managing all phases of projects
  • Direct interface and liaison with internal and external customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities, design reviews, and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications
  • Establish and maintain a filing system or databases to track project status
  • Generate complete design specifications for the most complex projects
  • Identify deficiencies in mechanical processes and develop improvements
  • May lead engineering teams and act as a mentor to engineering team members
  • May provide technical management and leadership to a group of employees for a given project, contract, or job with overall responsibility for cost, schedule, technical and employee performance
  • May train other engineers on technical issues related to engineering assignments' research, design, development, testing, and analysis
  • Perform a range of design development, construction/installation, operation, or review tasks independently, providing supervision of contributing engineers
  • Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested
  • Piping and Valve Specifications; SME B&PVC Design and Evaluation including Pressure Protection Design; Material Handling Equipment; and Mechanical Procurement Requirements/Specifications/Data Sheets
  • Prepare, deliver and submit technical papers and perform engineering studies
  • Preparing documentation of critical analysis and providing suggestions for correcting errors
  • Process Flow Diagrams; Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams; System Descriptions; Mechanical Equipment Lists; Mechanical Equipment Sizing/Calculations
  • Responsible for complete designs, construction/installation, operation, or design reviews independently or as a team leader
  • Supervising the development of computer-aided design (CAD) project drawings from junior team members
  • Support the development of the technical proposal and provide comments on the technical content and effort of the proposed scope of work
  • Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures
Desired Qualifications
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field; a Master’s or Ph.D. is a plus
  • Experience with 2D MicroStation Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) is preferred
  • Hold a Professional Engineering (PE) - Mechanical Engineering license
  • Knowledge of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and other Mechanical Engineering concepts (already in requirements but can repeat)
  • Experience with DOE Security Clearance process or DOE Q clearance experience (could be desirable)
  • Experience with detailed design in nuclear or DOE facility environments beyond basic requirements
  • Experience leading a team or mentoring engineers is desirable
  • Experience with project management and scheduling
  • Familiarity with Computer-Aided Design software beyond CAD (e.g., SolidWorks) could be considered desirable
