Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Three years of experience in housekeeping and/or laundry operations management is required.
  • Knowledge of laundry and/or housekeeping practices, procedures, standards, guidelines, and regulations in a long-term care environment is required.
  • Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and the internet is required.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Must be available for occasional weekend, evening, and holiday work.
  • Must be available on call 24/7 for emergencies.
  • Must be able to lift, transfer, push, or pull residents, patients, equipment, or supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • The role involves occasional exposure to residents or patients with various disease processes and daily exposure risks including falls, burns, odors, cuts, and infectious waste or disease, including AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses; bloodborne disease exposure risk category is II.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, develop, and direct housekeeping and laundry activities.
  • Manage housekeeping functions, including cleaning, washing, dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping, to maintain a clean and safe environment for residents, visitors, and staff throughout the life plan community.
  • Manage laundry functions, including collection, laundering, redistribution, and inventory of linens and resident laundry, ensuring adequate supplies are available.
  • Coordinate services and activities with Culinary, Housekeeping, Laundry, Maintenance, Therapy, Activities, and Social Services departments to ensure continuity of care.
  • Develop and maintain housekeeping and laundry policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a working supervisor when needed.
  • Maintain necessary equipment and supplies in safe, operable condition to support housekeeping and laundry functions.
  • Inspect work areas and equipment at least weekly for proper order and operation.
  • Identify, evaluate, and classify routine and job-related functions so housekeeping and laundry tasks involving potential exposure to blood or body fluids are properly identified and recorded.
  • Review, develop, and implement plans of correction for housekeeping and laundry concerns or deficiencies identified during quality assurance and state and city survey inspections.
  • Serve on committees, including the life plan community’s Safety Committee, and attend community meetings, providing written or oral reports on departmental services and activities.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of resident information.
  • Directly or indirectly manage all Housekeeping and Laundry Department staff at the life plan community.
  • Foster a positive work environment that attracts, retains, and motivates employees.
  • Interview, select, and orient new direct reports.
  • Establish and promote performance expectations for direct reports.
  • Evaluate direct reports’ job performance in accordance with company policy and procedure and provide developmental guidance for improved performance and growth.
  • Monitor employee accountability to Employee Handbook requirements, document and engage employees who routinely fail to comply, and work with Human Resources when further documentation or intervention is needed.
  • Participate in developing, planning, scheduling, conducting, and monitoring in-service training, on-the-job training, and orientation programs for departmental staff.
  • Maintain a reasonable and sufficient staffing plan for absences or vacant reporting positions.
  • Respond timely and thoughtfully to departmental staff questions, requests, and work products submitted for review and approval.
  • Listen and respond to the needs of residents and staff members.
  • Review and respond to resident and staff complaints and grievances concerning areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure resident personal and private property rights are followed by maintenance staff.
  • Assist in developing the departmental operational and capital budgets and maintain operations within them.
  • Ensure physical assets are maintained according to company standards.
  • Provide input on capital project priorities for the year.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Certified Executive Housekeeper designation from the International Executive Housekeepers Association is preferred.
  • Certified Laundry and Linen Management designation from the Association for Linen Management is preferred.
  • Experience in a long-term care facility, hospital, or other related medical facility is preferred.

Zachary Mills has been named executive director of Ohio Living Sarah Moore, Delaware, OH. In his new role, he will oversee campus operations, including staff engagement, resident and family communications, support for the local advisory board, and financial management. Mills brings more than 13 years of leadership experience as an administrator and executive director at senior living communities throughout Central Ohio. He is a licensed nursing home administrator and earned a bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University. Mills' background includes experience in process improvement, quality outcomes, relationship-building, workforce stabilization, and staff retention.
