If the candidate lacks university education, a JTIA-level vocational technical qualification plus at least four years of progressive technical experience in industrial instrumentation in mining-related industries is accepted, subject to successfully completing all practical and theoretical assessments.
  • Intermediate-advanced English is valued.
  • Two to four years of experience performing corrective maintenance, calibration, and configuration of instruments in an industrial process plant.
  • Competence using field communicators, 4–20 mA simulators, calibration tools, and tools for configuring pressure, temperature, level, and flow instruments.
  • Experience diagnosing faults and performing wiring work in electrical control systems.
  • Knowledge and experience configuring, testing, and maintaining control and on-off valves, including positioners, actuators, sensors, and functional tests.
  • Experience interpreting electrical drawings, P&IDs, and basic instrument technical documentation.
  • Basic knowledge of industrial communication protocols, including HART and Profibus PA/DP, and their integration with DCS and PLC systems.
  • Practical knowledge of working with ionizing-radiation-generating equipment.
  • Practical knowledge of industrial safety standards and practices, including task safety analysis, lockout/tagout, and work permits.
  • Functional ability to use reporting platforms to execute and provide feedback on work orders.
  • Successful completion of the practical and theoretical assessments required to apply for the Competent Professional position.
  • A valid driver's license is highly appreciated for logistical travel and field support.
  • Adaptability to different shifts, tasks, and working conditions.

  • Interest in continuous learning and improving technical and behavioral skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with colleagues, supervisors, and personnel from other disciplines.
  • Ability to turn feedback into tangible improvements is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on field instruments, ensuring operability according to established plans and operational priorities.
  • Calibrate, configure, and functionally test pressure, temperature, level, and flow sensors using simulators, field communicators, and adjustment tools.
  • Install, connect, and verify instrument loops, including transmitters, valves, and tubing, in accordance with quality, safety, and technical documentation standards.
  • Independently respond to common instrumentation system failures by applying documented technical solutions and operational best practices.
  • Diagnose faults in control systems, connections, and signals using drawings, P&ID diagrams, and established procedures.
  • Support technical interventions on more complex equipment, including weigh scales, analyzers, pH meters, vibration sensors, and metal detectors, escalating when appropriate.
  • Consult specialists or supervisors about situations outside the role's technical scope, critical decisions, or undocumented findings, while communicating clearly and promptly.
  • Follow safety, housekeeping, and cleanliness standards, use personal protective equipment appropriately, and comply with task-specific operating procedures.
  • Accurately document work performed in work orders, failure reports, and other required departmental forms.
  • Perform field work under variable conditions, including possible exposure to noise, dust, rain, humidity, work at heights, confined spaces, ionizing radiation, chemicals, and manual handling of loads up to 50 pounds.
  • Collaborate with junior technicians and apprentices during joint interventions by providing operational support.
  • Reinforce field practices for housekeeping, cleanliness, safety, and procedural compliance.
  • Participate in technical training and help apply the training in assigned tasks.
  • Report technical difficulties or needs for specialized support to the foreman or supervisor.
  • Promote effective communication with colleagues to improve coordination on team tasks.
  • Actively meet the technical progression program and commitments associated with the role's level.
  • Meet the department's established key performance indicators and contribute to departmental goals.
  • Perform duties according to established standards and policies for safety, environment, maintenance, costs, and continuous improvement.
