Requirements
  • Applicants for the part-time position must be at least 16 years old.
  • A current lifeguard certification from a recognized organization, such as the Red Cross, is required, or the applicant must obtain it within 30 days of hire.
  • Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation, automated external defibrillator, and first aid certifications are required, or the applicant must obtain them within 30 days of hire.
  • Current Administering Emergency Oxygen certification is required, or the applicant must obtain it within 30 days of hire.
  • Applicants must have strong swimming abilities.
  • Applicants must be observant and able to react calmly, quickly, and with good judgment in an emergency.
  • Applicants must be able to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
  • Employees must comply with abuse prevention policies, maintain appropriate boundaries, complete required training, report suspicious or inappropriate behavior, and comply with mandated reporting requirements.
  • Employment offers are contingent on the results of a background check.
  • Applicants must have authorization to work in the United States, as verified through the Federal E-Verify system.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, on the deck, and in surrounding areas by constantly observing the pool area, enforcing health and safety rules, and maintaining emergency readiness.
  • Perform duties related to opening or closing the pool when required.
  • Rescue distressed persons and examine injured persons.
  • Administer first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation when necessary using training, rescue techniques, medical supplies, and equipment.
  • Perform equipment checks, ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed, and promptly report problems.
  • Provide customer service to members, program participants, and guests.
  • Attend required staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Perform poolside chemical testing.
  • Set up and store equipment for recreational swims.
  • Maintain the safety of pool, deck, and surrounding areas for program participants.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations, including differences in language, culture, race, physical ability, and sexual orientation.
  • Ability to speak a language in addition to English.
